Discipline with your kids - Part II

What are you trying to teach her with all of these punishments and "learning experiences"? It seems to me that you are punishing her just to punish her, like a drill sergeant trying to break the will of the recruits. Or maybe I'm completely wrong and you are just telling us half of the story.

 

I'm missing where the disrespect was - was it in wearing the jeans or in the way she talked to you after you mentioned the jeans?

When you saw the jeans, why didn't you just stop and have her change clothes? At the point where you confronted her about it, what options did she have to remedy the situation?

 

I was pretty much forced to go when I was a kid. Probably why I quit going when i went off to college. Of course I went on holidays to apease mom. Now I go on my own free will, but to a methodist church instead of catholic.

I have to say Pete, you may gotten a little too heated over her clothes. I wore holey (holy ) jeans to church as a kid, but even I knew on Easter Sunday that I better at least wear slacks. So you're daughter should have known better. She definitely got defiant because she's in that "No one is right but me" stage. I've been there. My mom would yell at me for cutting new jeans I got to widen the bottom for a better fit over my shoes. lol, those were always fun arguments.

While I'm not a parent, you have to pick your battles with your daughter. I think you need to sit down and discuss your reasoning of why you got so mad and ask her side of things too. How did grandma feel about her choice of atire? Be thankful it was a small hole in the jeans and not some super short skirt.

I'll see it soon enough when my 2 cousins hit 15 in a few years. They're at that pre-teen stage now and very well behaved and quiet. It'll be interesting when they really start maturing.

Heck, I think we all need to do a quick sanity check before we blow a gasket about anything. Last time I flew off the handle it nearly cost me a friendship. I learned from that night.

That's exactly how my cousins are, both are very good in school and have good friends from what I understand. They are the total opposite though. The youngest is the joyful, out going, social one, while the oldest is the quiet, sort of nerdy one. I have a feeling the youngest one will end up being the trouble makers as she ages. But I really hope the oldest comes out of her shell the older she gets. It's kind of hard for them in a family dominated by men. Now the tide has turned and girls are being born in the family, so I'm sure (God-willing) if I have a kids my first will be a girl.

I can't even remember everything I did as a kid, but I know I was grounded a lot. lol

 

Kids have iPhones? Anybody care to donate one to my 13 year old? Wait, on second thought...

 

I am amazed at what some parents will let there kids get away with these days. I was having lunch today at a local family restaurant when a family came in to eat and sat at the table next to myself when the girl took her jacket off. I was shocked to see the logo on the front of the girls shirt that had the words fashioned in a circle saying "HORNY SLUTS"!!!! To make matters worse the back of the shirt had "***UAZHL" across the shoulders.

What kind of rock were the parents living under to allow there children to wear clothes like that???

 

This is why I put a lump of dirt in an iPhone box and gave it to my 16 year old for her birthday; her expression was priceless!

 

I've seen some f'd up ****, but that's just flat out apauling.

 

They probably thought it was funny to give it to her as a gag gift!

 

After a Ferrari run, a few FCers were at a restaurant in Calabasas (affluent community) when in walked a knock out blonde with a nicely dressed group of 4, wearing expensive jeans and a t-shirt which read,

"You say tomato,
I say F*** YOU!"

Unforgettable!

 

would not surprise me one single bit if that was the case.
