fender badging

"Friends of the Factory" have had Shields applied to their road going Fcars from day one. For what an Fcar costs, every customer should be considered a friend of the factory. When we got the GT4 it had NART badges on the front fenders, I liked them, but with in our Macco Paint job budget at the time, it was not in the cards to recondition them to be put back on, we passed them on when the car was sold, they were never put back on as far as I know, and I now wish I had kept them.

Not embarassed to say I would have passed on my car if it did not have factory shields. I think IMHO they are not only very cool, but really are so unique to Ferrari as to make them totally expressive of the marque.

 

This is a very hot button issue on the corvette forum also. Several of my vettes have factory badging on the fender sides and one is a "one off" " model to steal a phrase that has them also. My 328 came with shields on it (more than likely a dealer item) and they work for me. At least with add on shields you have the option of removing them. And speaking for my self only I have no problem with my F-cars looking a little different than some one elses. Thats why they make a menu folks...

If it's a black Ferrari with a Scuderia shield only on the right side, it means the owner is a Steelers fan.

 

Way back when - I was an anti-shield-it. I was of the opinion that shields belonged on on racing cars. Over the years, however, I have come to justify shields as an indicator of one's support for the racing team. My MINI wears one - on the tailgate - to indicate my support for our team. If I were ordering a car today, the shield option would be included. VIVA TIFOSI!!!

When buying my 456MGT that would have been a deal breaker. To me it's all about understated elegance. No Tubi either. I had both after market shield and Tubi removed prior to my receiving it.

I like the shield on the 360 though. So it's a case by case with me. I would probably want one on a 599 but not a Daytona.

 

To my knowledge shields are unique to Ferrari. It also harkens back to to the Ferrari commitment to racing. Sort of like Porsche and "Carrera."

thus, shields are a must have option for me...and factory original is better than after-market IMVHO.

Wow, I have to jump in here. As a fairly new Ferrari owner, I have just replaced the stick on soft shields with shields purchased from another Fchatter on my 348SS. I say this completely tongue in cheek, as I am usually the first guy screaming to keep all of these cars stock, but you can all kiss my arse LOL

I had DetailGuy pull off the old ones, and the car looked good without them, but I still had him put on the new thin metal shields, and it looks good now too. To each his own in this case. Do we rip on people for putting on aftermarket pipes? Removing cats? I guess some of us do, and if and when I buy a 328, I almost certainly will NOT add shields, but on my 348 it actually looks pretty good. If you guys are shield snobs, smooch me.

My car had shields on it when I bought it--they look OK to me and I didn't
want to pry them off. I can go either way but I do think they look decent.

By the way, Detailguy said we could pull these off if I wanted to as well with no damage to car, so if I decide to take them off, no worries.

These were put on by the first owner.

I have no good reason to remove them so they're still on. If, for one reason or another, I ever did remove them, I doubt I would bother putting new ones back on. But do they really look bad?

I'll see what I can do. I think I have a couple laying around on a hard drive or two.

 

Steve- It is whatever you like and everybody has their own tastes. I happen to love yellow tachometers and am installing a 575 SA instrument cluster, newly rebuilt by S.A.I., in my 575M. Have heard a few "but that is not stock" comments, but I like it so who cares. Someone in the 360/430 forum took his beautiful 430's silver wheels and painted them black. I do no like black wheels, but made no comment because it was his car and he liked it that way. Good enough for me.

I am ambivalent on shields. Ambivalence being defined (I repeat myself) as your mother-in-law going over a cliff in your 612.
