I need to remove the old mirror mount on my '86 328 from the windshield. Does anyone know an easy way to do this without breaking the glass??

    Thanks.

You might want to discuss that with a good windshield replacement glass person.

I think that could turn into a disaster!

You will definitely feel the pane if you crack the glass!

Dealers of auto winshields use a chemical to dissolve the glue on your old windshield allowing for easy transfer of the mirror to the new windshield. note the chemical can also be used to remove chrome emblems from painted bodywork and it should be easily available.
