Kimi puts F1 Racing in its place

I remember that very well--I think it was the Italian GP?? He was leading comfortably when he downshifted once too often. He went into 1st instead of 2nd, the rear wheels locked and he tossed it away.

I know there is no crying in baseball or football or F-1, and I know this looked bad.

Hey, we all have our moments. I've had my share of them.

Sooner or later, Kimi will have one, too.

 

Even that doesn't annoy me as much as the simplistic explanations. Not motivated, not driven, doesn't care, not passionate, doesn't cry, doesn't have his family cry on the paddock with him, blah, blah, blah. These are people who know absolutely nothing about the subject other than the writings of sensationalist journalists. I bet that none of these idiots have even an inkling of the basic conditioning and fitness of the guy. Webber knew what he was talking about when he recently said that Kimi was probably the baddest dude among F1 drivers. Kimi's trainers have said that his conditioning is equal to that of professional Ice Hockey players. No one's gonna put themselves through that kind of workout regimen just to get drunk and party his brains out. People who don't care will simply not attain such level of physical fitness. And people who were born piss-poor and just bought a 108 foot yacht with their F1 earnings really DO care. It is not really that complicated to figure out.

What these clueless know-it-all critics demonstrate is merely that they haven't been around. That is a nice way of saying ignorant.

Now if someone says that Kimi is a prick, for example, I'm perfectly fine with that. Everyone's entitled to their feelings toward others without having to justify it.

Exactly. The only aspect of Kimi's performance that has me worried is the fact that Massa has often outqualified him. Schumi used to wipe the floor with the very same Massa. And I am not implying that I believe that Kimi will be the next Schumi. No one should.

I hope so. Kimi did say a few days ago that if the FIA finds the Brawn, Toyota & Williams cars are legal, the season is essentially over for Ferrari...

The man's attitude sucks. The whole "iceman" can be overlooked when he's winning races but lately, he's been outclassed by Massa.

Frankly, I'm sick of him and his motivational problems.

 

Talent like Kimi's doesn't just evaporate overnight. Last year was a car issue. I'm willing to bet he gets that behind him and shines (at least as much as the POS car will let him) this year. Let's wait more than just 2 races before getting concerned about his 2009 performance.

It's told me what I knew all along: you need a decent chassis, decent motor, and decent driver to win.

I know I keep saying this, but can you imagine Senna in the Toleman in 1984 if it had a reliable powerplant ?

Skip to 2009, we have a Brawn winning, but the more experienced driver on the team is 0-2, and he used to pilot a Ferrari.

Then we have the reigning WDC in a car with the 'same' motor as what is in the Brawn, and he goes nowhere, so far. Chassis.

Then we have allegedly the two 'best' drivers in F1 in a Ferrari, that should not be lacking of power, but they are worse off than McLaren. Chassis ?

As we ALL keep saying, it comes down to the complete package, and if you look at every WDC over the last 30 years, it comes down to that in every year except possibly one year.

 

It's easy to be dismissive when you're losing.

 

What the whole thing boils down to is he isn't delivering the goods anymore. He's regularly behind Massa and now he tends to stay there. What his attitude is off the track, who fricken cares? I want the Kimi back that passed the whole field in Japan in 05. Where's THAT guy?

 

didn't we go through this several times last year, and the year before that? you people who seem to know exactly who is or isn't motivated in competition..you make me laugh. i've been around fellow pro athletes for a long time...and yet i've never ever dared to claim someone is or isn't motivated--simply because i NEVER know exactly what that person feels deep down. you people with the 'motivation' fixation, your statements say tons about you, and nothing about Kimi.

I think Kimi did very well, but the point is, he could have done better, he was cruising at times. Ever moreso, Ferrari could have done MUCH better. Massa was robbed of the WDC by Ferrari-----it was more than just one fumble, Ferrari screwed him over several times. I think Kimi is an interesting character considering he competes, sometimes wins in world class snowmobile races and rally car races, he loves to compete, not to mention his off track clowning around. For someone to be able to do all this and then calmly compete at the highest level is amazing. His speaking style isn't exactly sparkling, but sometimes he says some rather funny things in a dry way, he's very honest and NEVER, EVER a whiner or a blamer. Overall, I'd like to see Massa win just to validate him after being robbed last year, but I wouldn't mind at all seeing Kimi take the title.

Regarding Massa, in Schumacher's last season Massa did well by his side, which proves he has speed. Massa is not a total package, but then again, I don't think anyone currently in F1 is right now. Alonso probably comes closest.

 

Absolutely agree. Considering gotten all this stick, he's still out qualifyied Massa at all three races (i think.... defferently 2/3) and would have some good points if he hadn't made mistakes and the same goes for Ferrari, and he did have the KERS problem
