Nope...those are the Originals...skwirmy as hell...Didn't take any chances stayed local....She has a small problem. I need to get to a mechanic..It pings under load....I drained dirty gas Replaced the plugs, filed the points and rotor cap. re set...but I am noticing a vacuum line is off of the diaphram next to the distributor...Might be pollution eqip.....Maybe vacuum advance in timing is not operational...may try to retard distributor manually and see if it stops....otherwise need to run out a few gallons of crud in fuel lines...also too much slack in throttle linkage...must pull it in..lots of fine tunng to do..Havent got my hands this banged up in a while!! otherwise she is Tight! Must be nice to drive a brand new car.Very tight as per Jaguar built. As they say "A nice E-type is a joy" "A tired E-type a nightmare" Did she come with a hardtop? regards Rob Bailey. Melbourne .
Busy as a Bee... Drained fuel system 3 times...fresh gas and additive...no more pinging.. flushed oil once and refilled with castrol real oil, and 1 quart of SLICK 50 , remember that stuff!! drained radiator refilled... Dumped the no eared knock offs in favor of 2 ear knock offs , very British. Dumped front license plate...wide open mouth. Much More General detailing all around... I think its becomeing my car now... Love that engine purrr. takes a good pic too... took it out for a 3 hour tour yesterday!! wonderful! Sable is not a color I would chose BRG is my preference...but I'll enjoy it while I have it.. Almost time to sell it...and start over again if I keep it, wider wheels and tires are next! Looks great. Want to have a real reliable cat. Take the original dizzy out and replace it with a Mallory Unilite.
In all the years of series 1 and 2...only the 71 has a chrome protection lip around mouth opening...almost reminisent of D type mouth paint scheme!
Michael. I mean the original points distributor replaced with a Mallory Unilite elctronic ignition distributor. Classic Jaguar sells them specific to XKEs and they work great. I did it with my series 1 and it was the single best upgrade I did. Just keep the original in a box so when you sell it give it to the new owner or replace it before selling.
Thats what I thought....You mean you dont like replacing points and condensers anymore...Thats part of the fun
I still get that thrill with my TVR. 2 cars with points and condenser is more joy than any one person should experience ;-). Hope to see you on the road one day. Your car looks like one I saw 25ish years ago atan exotic dealer in Glen Head - had like 4,200 original miles back then.
If you care, the "no ear" knock-offs are correct for late series 1.5 and all 2.0. LH drive (export) cars switched over first. Scanning AutoWeek, looks like your car is for sale!
Yes...this is a very special car...For someone who is looking for an original... This is a once in a life time car... will sell with Hardtop for $80,000.00
Ended up wet sanding and machine polishing through 4 different coarse ness levels and polishing through to a carnuba wax finish...FUN! Hardtop makes it a different car...need to seat gasket though! ready for Showtime!! I will probably do same... you would not know who carries the correct hardtop seal gasket...between body and top...XKS unlimited had this one but it has way too much presense..need a more delicate thinner rubber moulding...also needs to suck into car more, this one is sitting up on body Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
