For Euro and American members both. Fastest I ever cruised was 110 mph on the I-40 west of Tulsa in an ex GF's Porsche 911 turbo. In my own defense, the car was so comfy at that speed I didn't know I was going that fast. Lets hear your stories.

I usually drive pretty close to the speed limit. Once in a while on a country two lane road I'll open it up a little.

The nearest freeway is nearly a 100 miles away. So the maximun speed limit between here and there is 55. In Oregon it's easy to get a ticket. The police here don't have much give and very little Ha Ha when it comes to speeding. I've seem people pulled over for a few MPH's over the speed limit.

In my Benz? I've hit around 120 or so in the back roads in rural Oregon (where you can
see literally for miles). In the Ferrari? Mostly just a 'speed limit' kinda guy. It's already
a stand-out car - no need to double the limit to prove the point.

You'd get run over going under +/- 80 on freeways around DFW or Houston. I travel the same roads a lot and when I am in a hurry, even rural areas, I run 80+....I've had one ticket in 10 years, but it was a doozy....on a motorcycle....113. The officer was very nice, but I wasn't gonna walk with a warning.

Making the drive one time on I-94 from Michigan to Chicago. Three or four lanes of asphalt going my way, beautiful day and almost no traffic. Been driving about 4 hrs. just got bored and decided to open it up close to the Indiana border. Passed a smokey doing over 110. Checked my rearview, slowed right down but he didn't come after me. About 1.5 miles further up the road sat a trooper on the side of the road with his bubble lights on. Didn't take a genius to know that he was looking for me. I immediately pulled over and when when he approached I very politely asked him why the other officer let me go by. The trooper gave me a big smile and told me that the first officer called ahead and told him that "I would be coming right along". He turned out to be a really good guy. We started talking and he gave me a ticket for 15mph. over and I was happy to pay it. Moral of the story: With the right car you may outrun the trooper but you can't out run a radio.

I was able to run my BMW flat-out for a couple miles on a new, unopened stretch of freeway a few years ago. Ran 2 miles at an actual, redline-limited 146 mph. Adrenaline was really pumping after that.

Fastest I've driven my Ferrari is about 110 mph. Had the roof open and it felt like my head was going to get blown off.

I've set the cruise control to 200 km/h in a BMW for two hours and it did it without any fuss. On that same trip I topped the speedometer for about three minutes, it only goes up to 260km/h but the car kept pulling. BMWs sold in Mexico aren't electronically limited.

In the early 80's stationed in Germany (USAF) my buddies and I rented a little BMW to go to Octoberfest and Garmish, while on the Autobaun headed that way I was cruising at about 110-115 when I spotted two red dots in the rear view mirror, they were way back but just that quick they were on me, then passed and were gone quicker than I could alert the other passengers, and yes you guessed it, a pair of Ferrari Boxers slicing and dicing making there way past us like we were standing still. It was a cool moment and I'll always remember it !! Otter

Not that I have ever exceeded the speed limit, but a C-class Benz can hit 125 pretty darn fast. I've been in a vehicle that was taken to 155 and at 9 that's scary fast, later that night my dad and a cop took it up to 185. I then realized why my grandma got rid of the Testarossa before her grandson's were driving age.

As far as cruising, I pay enough for insurance with no tickets on my record to do anything more than 70 on the interstates.

My friend in high school had a Camaro with double hump heads and dual Holly carbs. It had a 3/4 race cam and dual exhausts. We cruised that thing from Vegas to LA on the I-15. The speedo stopped at 120 but I am sure we were doing 190 or so. Did that all the way from Vegas to Zzyzx road. Man the whole car was shakin and wandering all over the place. I would be surprised if we weren't doing close to 200. That thing was fast.

No no no you have it backwards. We go so fast because we are so cool. :)

The best thing about these threads is reading about old Camaros going 190.

In my Subaru I did 140 once at 3am on I-5. I normally cruise at about 75-80 on freeways. I dont drive anywhere without my V1.

Not that I ever do it but- the general highway cruising speed in Mass seems to be either 70-80 MPH or 0-5 MPH in traffic.
