Has anyone ever peeled (cut) open a stock spider muffler? Or have diagram of the internals? I've considered doing some experimentation with a valving system.. stock sound at idle and low rpm but F1 sound above say 6k rpm's.. just curious what's inside the stocker

maybe even an externaly adjustable muffler.. can be adjusted from the rear of the car for any desired level??

If it proves viable maybe Goth could incorporate it into his ???

I asked the same question a few weeks ago but got no responses. I was also interested in the inside of a muffler, however mine is the Tubi not OEM.

I have the original muffler from my fathers 97 in the garage. I'm tempted to cut it open...... :D

The interior of the stock spider muff is pretty simple. There are 2 pipes in and 2 pipes out and they do not connect. In between is a bunch of packing. Then the outside is heavily wrapped and armored. I believe this is how goth explained it to me. Maybe he can elaborate.

I wonder what the result of cutting a small hole and removing some packing would be???

you know ricers been doing this a long time. General problem is that you take the packing out and you got a huge echo chamber volume. So you need to tune the sound with packing and or baffling and can volume. Then we have not even got to back pressure scavenging etc... You guys need to talk to OZ. But it is done and some guys get nice noises. In fact I'm pretty sure we have a 360 owner on FC that does this for P-bugs as one of his services. Don't know if he has done f cars.

Ummm, there's 3 pipes in and 2 out... That's why I was wondering what the insides looked like, to know if the bypass had less baffling. It sure sounds like it on the Tubi.

I show on mine 1 inlet from the cats on each side and, well 2 outlets to the tail pipes. Sorry, I was thinking there was only 1 per side with a split tail pipe. Either way, the tubes do not connect inside the stock muffler. The flow is kind of pressurized. Removing stuff inside it is going to reduce back pressure and increase the exhasut note. Could be a cheap upgrade. Try it and let us know.

You are both right - but you are talking about two different muffler cans (355 vs. 348).

Maybe try to pick one up on eBay as a spare first? Saw one on there a couple of months ago that went for around $350.

True fact; we were talking about the 348 Spider/Challenge/Serie Speciale single can muffler.
