Is there anyone who can tell me what the difference is between 365/400/412, beside the obvious size of the engine?

It would be interesting to hear your views about the difference in fuel economy, handling/performance and cost of maintenance.

I'm not sure 'economy' is the right word to use when describing their fuel consumption !

I'd also be very surprised if any owner decided to buy a particular model because it did 9 rather than 8 miles per gallon (conversion = approximately 30 not 35 litres per 100 km) - not necessarily genuine figures - just a guess

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_400 covers 400 & 412

It has to be a difference in fuel "economy" between a carburator and a injection model? Maybe not the car isn't economical but it still have a fuel conumption...

    As
You,re correct of course, when purchasing a prancing horse economy goes out the window BUT in 07 I did a1000 mile trip in my 365.There was quite a difference when driving to the speed limit(100klm/hr)I achieved 15 miles to gallon. When driving irresponsibly I was getting about 7.I know what I prefered.....using the car as it was designed.
As for the rest it comes down to mechanical condition.I purchased mine with only a few thousand miles since full mechanical restoration with receipts from a recognised Ferrari workshop.

Ok, ok, ok... forget about the fuel issue. I know that the fuel part is the least expensive part in owning a Ferrari!

I just wanted to know the differences.

365GT/4 2+2: Stretched and slightly redesigned 365GTC/4. All manual trans. Knock off wheels. 6 2 barrel side draft webbers. Older style interior; less cushy seats, mousehair dash and console.

400: Increased displacement (I think the block is altered compared to thet 365 but I'm not certain). Early units are carb setup similar to 365GT/4 late models are Bosch injection. Mostly Auto - GM unit. seats are plusher, Series two has different secondary controls (electric rather than cable). Rustproofing began in '83 or '84.

412: Increased displacement. Plushest of all. Antilock brakes.

Late 412s still can be found in great original condition. Older cars will have some age related issues regardless of use.

    Regards,

    Art S.

Sorry, I don't really see the design link between the 365 GTC/4 and the following series! The interior is very similar to the 365 GT/4, though.

    Aidan,

Same mechanicals (at least very similar if you want to be picky ;) ). 2" stretch on chassis. Updated styling.

I agree they are virtually the same mechanically, but the styling (that is what I meant by "design") is completely new.

    Cheers

The part that Ferrari designed is the same but the part that Pininfarina designed is much diffrent.
