the only problem will be with the alarm. If I want to keep it, or put a new one, there is no connector either on original or upgraded for that. Hope my electro/mechanician here knows how to do that properly.
If you feel comfortable with the alarm, that's ok; I simply do not trust aftermarket alarms. I have a hidden manual ignition kill switch that is very simple.
The deal with the alarm is not black magic. Still the problem with those is that they have all sorts of "triggering" events that result in increased current draw. If one is poorly designed, it will be constantly going to a high current draw state, and thus taking your battery down. If you want an alarm, you really should find a specialist who is intimately acquainted with all the various manufacturers and models, and who knows how to do a first class install.
ok, I will take care of that and buy a new good standard alarm. but the question is still : if there is no current output on the fusebox designed for the alarm how can I connect it properly ? Pick up current on another output, like radio ?

Like I said, find a specialist who is well skilled in alarm system installs and let him inform you. Like Russ says, I am pretty sure that he will want to run a wire from the battery to provide power. If you have found the right individual, you need not concern yourself over details like this. Until you find someone whose great reputation precedes them, I would not do anything besides installing the improved circuit board to a factory configuration. Actually, it is my understanding that quality alarms have their own battery that is recharged from the car's battery via a direct line. That way, disconnecting the battery, (not hard on a Mondial), will not disable the alarm.
hi guys, very difficult to have a complete quotation from GTCarParts. They did only give me the price. As i remailed them , and phoned asking for the delay, the payment method, the man, Bill Young, remained dumb. I am confused now, because the car is stoped at the garage and needs this part... As they dont have a web site for ordering the part, I would like to be sure of anything before ordering it. If days goes like like I will be forced to order the chinese ferrari box, and I dont want it...
Dude, I see you have been ripped off before,,, Believe me,,, GT Car Parts WILL not rip you off. Just send in your old box, with NO cover. (They need this as a core.) Tape a business card to your old box. They will call you, , and take your credit card. Then, they will send you a box. See my NEW box, cost $ 1,100.00 USA Ciao, Edwardo Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have ordered the box today. Bill told me there is one available. Hope it will be here very soon coz I need it next week. thanx guys
83 Mondial Cabriolet QV, Grigio (smokey grey), 65,000 miles. I plan to keep it. I live in Hawaii. So with your help I shall be able to keep it - but cheaper! 1. Just bought the revised fuse box from GT Parts today. Have the same problems you all pointed out: Intermittent fan (huge), fuel pump action spotty (Birdman said might be the accumulator), and two "rebuilt fuse holders" at $$ each, slow windows WITH a helping hand! 2. Even if the revised fuse box doesn't fix everything it is important to me to get rid of the existing fuse box. 3. Another radiator will be next. Any advice? I bought the second fan about two years ago - so will install it when I replace the radiator. 4. The wheels are wonderful but not original. They have a shooting star image and 55C cast into them. Does anyone know what brand they are? 5. Since I live in Hawaii I plan to shut off the heater and plug the lines. Any comments? 6. Two years from now I plan to put the supercharger (e-bay) on the car.... whoa! 7. Thanks again for the advice you are giving the rest of the world. All of you should take a bow! jamtans hawaii
Hey Jamie, Just to be specific here....you said the car had a hot start problem and I suggested checking the accumulator. The accumulator would not affect the fuel pump. Two different animals. The accumulator holds pressure in the fuel system when you shut the car off so that when you crank it again, there is pressure in there before the pump comes up to pressure. If the accumulator fails, the car will have hot start issues because it will take the fuel pump a while to build pressure while cranking. I recommend having the existing radiator re-cored. It will cost about $350 and be more efficient. You can have the radiator shop add the mount for the second fan while they are at it. That's what I did with mine. Read this story for a laugh about what happens when your radiator is clogged! Post a pic in the Mondial section and I'm betting one of our gurus will know what they are. Jonathan
I asked him about a "will not start hot" problem. He mentioned the accumulator. The guy I had look at the car simply disconnected a wire on top of engine so that the fuel pump runs anytime the key is turned on. That solved the problem but is probably NOT the appropriate fix. Perhaps the new fusebox I bought .... Any one have another idea or fixed a similar problem?
This is why K-jet is so aggevating to me. Of course my final fix was a little extreme. Another common K-jet hot start problem is the one way check valve designed to keep the system pressurized. Remember if you got the new GT fusebox, they DO NOT come with new relays - they are used relays. I replaced all of mine when I gt the new box with the later style plastic bodied type. Remove and re-seat the white connector on the fusebox that is vertically oriented and is on the fusebox toward the middle of the car; they come loose sometimes and the contact is intermittant and poor. Good luck!
If pulling the connector to the fuel pump switch in the K-jet fuel distributor fixed the problem, you almost certainly have an isse with the accumulator or check valve. LOL! Good point. I always think of the check valve and accumulator as a single unit, but they aren't.
With the original fusebox, the battery would go dead if the car was left for a week in addition to other odd intermittant electrical oddities. Have had the new GT fusebox now for about 9 months - no problems. Windows even go faster. Battery even kept a charge over 3 mos I was away in Europe. If you have not upgraded your fusebox, you should. It has made a HUGE difference. This is the most important thing you can do for your Mondial, regardless of year.
Well Russ, far be it for me to contradict you, but not everybody's factory box is as bad as all that. My t's box had a partail meltdown, was crudely repaired with solder, and now is pretty stable. I can leave the car for any reasonable length of time and not have it go dead, the windows work fine, etc. etc. On the other hand it is great to know that Bill is on the job, as who knows how long the above situation will hold. But for now my priority is getting my car to sound like yours!!
So what does one do to discover whether the problem is accumulator or check valve, or both? and when do I reconnect the plug that the guy disconnected? jamtans
This chat room is brill - I have just had my 84 Mondial QV inspected by a Ferrari specialist as the a/c doesn't work, most of the electrics don't work and they said that I should start by replacing the fuse board. SO having read your threads do you a kit to improve the box ? Mondy
Sure Mondy. Go down to the equvalent of Radio Shack in England, buy a bunch of different colored wires, some solder, and a kit box. Get someone to loan your their factory service manual, make a photocopy of the wiring digram and get busy! OR, call Bill at GT Car Parts, 01-623-780-2200, and order up one of his sweet aftermarket fuse panels. Any questions?
hi everybody, I did replace the original ferrari box with the GT one. By the way, the cause of the non proper running of the car ( fuel pump, discharge of the battery ) was not due to the fusebox. It was due to alarm and bad electrical wirings. After weeks of research at the workshop, the car is ok now (except the drivers console not enlighted at night...). So I am now with an extra box. I put it on sell. My car is 1987 Euro 3.2QV. If anyone interested please PM or email me. By the way, I am not able to create a file on Fadd... System tells me I have not the authorization for that.
here I'll sell you a KIT,,, $ 1,000,000.00 usa. + shipping,,, this thing weighs 55#. (Douh!) Or, get a new one from GT car parts.. (wink) Edwardo Image Unavailable, Please Login
