In case anyone is interested this is gonna be what the GT2 car will look like. Looks great with the ZR1 body style. Can't wait to see it in it's full livery..

I was wondering what makes this different from the GT1 Corvette? I never really looked into the technical regulations but I'm guessing a horsepower and downforce loss. I was hoping someone one here might know better.

Less power, steel brakes instead of carbon and less downforce. Did I miss anything?

The intake for the radiator. Could just be the shadow, but the tapered Aston Martin grill was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the pictures.

It could be just the shadow, I just looked at pics of the grille of the Aston and pics of the grille on the C6R and they don't look the same to me at all.

Corvette is my second love. I really hope they do well in GT2, coming after Ferrari of course. :D

Luis- Congratulations, you have written the longest surviving Corvette thread I have seen up here in the Ferrari sections. Normally one of the mods banishes anything saying Corvette to the American Muscle forum as soon as he sees it.

I like Corvettes, too, and traded a C6 Z06 towards my 575M. I have one of the 1/12 GMP C5R models that is really nice. A shame there was not more GT1 competition except at LeMans. Some of those battles with the Maranellos and Astons were really epic.

Well, at least this car will technically be legal, unlike the Astons. Those Aston fairings push so many things over the limits, but as said by 'velocityengineer,' (who even worked for Prodrive) they were just too important to have in racing again. Such a shame.

GT1 is a carbon tub, GT2 is stock aluminum chassis

I fear this car will be stillborn as I doubt the US govt and UAW will be going racing anytime soon

I'm missing something ! Why is the corvette not in the GT1 class anymore? I did a search a month ago on the net before the 12 hours of sebring. Does anyone know why it's not in the gt1 class anymore the cars was the best in looks expect for the late Prodrive 550 M's

    Thanks Terry,

I have a C6 Z right now myself and I love it. Stiff ride but what a blast it is. I don't know what happened to the other teams in GT1 especially ProDrive. I'm not sure if their failed F1 experiment killed it or not but all the teams seemed to run off and hide in GT2. ALMS should just eliminate the GT1 class and just call it GT class.

The Corvette is still running in GT1, they won Sebring, and will likely win LeMans, there just isn't any competition for them in GT1, they beat everybody so badly and so consistently that nobody wants to come out and race them anymore........

If you are just racing by yourself, unless you win overall, you don't get any press coverage. So they are going to GT2 where there will be people to race against.

solo- Affirmative. LeMans will be their last race IIRC. Hope they do not paint one a weird color different from the normal yellow. They always lose when they do that.

For Corvette fans, Torch Red (the bright, pretty one) is back this year. Victory Red was a poor substitute.

LeMans Blue was a very popular color but it certainly didn't help them at LeMans that year...keep the yellow.
There is outside funding it should be ok for GT2 as long as the rules don't get bent to put them out of contention like the Cadillac program!

Watch that crap buddy, my car is victory red and I love it. The C6Rs are yellow with black accents for car number 3 and Black with yellow accents for number 4

Luis- Had two Torch Red C5 Z06s (plus a yellow one) and a Victory Red 2006 C6 Z06 (and yellow 2008), so qualified to have an opinion. I much prefer Torch Red.

Taz, I know you're a Corvette guy, but that's your opinion only. I'm familiar with Torch Red and I much prefer Victory Red.
