Have you ever done Targa Tas Rog? Alternator issues dont seem happen on Toyota L/C's either! Lets fit one of those instead!! Its just a case of bad luck here me thinks. I bet Goober rebuilds it and it will be right for another 10 years! The alternators sit very close the exhaust manifolds on V8 Ferraris. So there is always a lot heat present around them. I guess in a race car, there is more heat which is why it probably failed in this case and probably why Michelotto has added an air intake/ducting to the F1 system to keep that area cool. Also, there are MANY universal alternators he could bolt on to do the job, doesnt have to be a Porsche one. Thats probably the trouble!! A 10 yr old race car!! I wonder if the alternator has been overhauled in the past in Goob's car?
I dont think a Landcruiser would regularly see 7 or 8 thousand RPM... or the downchanges from high revs either.
I think he said he has used a L/C alternator all new alternator, just found out the electrics got fried but they managed to get the car out of gear so all is not lost plenty of others didn't make it back in one piece and that is a damn shame as ALL the guys cars were in exceptional condition BTW it was DAMN cold this morning , -2-4 degrees , even the locals were rugged up at noon !!!
Yeah, an alternator is an alternator! Same bearings, same internals! You just have to ensure the pulley on the front is the right diameter so it spins to the rough RPM to charge the battery. True! So what happened mate?? Alt ok, but the wiring to it has fried?? Yeah, that sux mate!! Hopefully noone was seriously hurt! You can tell its cold if the locals are rugging up!
I guess the alternator is different to other 360?Can,t they fly one in from mainland. Were the recov truck mainly accidents? Won,t happen when we do it...you,re reading the route book!!!!
easy put the Karcher on it. issue is the R series tyres and all the stones they pick up,gut feel just blow some paint on it ,we were unlucky with that bit of road.
gunna get a mate to blow the paint in and put clear plastic over the sills and inner guards, thanks for the offer.
I would if keeping those R series tyres on. All the clubbies running them coat nose, sides and guards as far as I've seen. Not expensive for straight forward shapes. Its only complex shapes that need a skilled applicator and therefore pricie.
