Just yesterday on my day off.....cruising N. 101 i see what i thought was a blk corvette in my mirror.........after sometime it got closer and i could see if was a 599. The resemblance is quite obvious.........especially on the road. I'm used to seeing corvettes in my mirror. LOL

Aw, hehe. Same thing happens with me. My girlfriend knows I'm a car nut, and, bless her little heart, she tries so hard to spot nice cars for me. She's all the time going "oh look! What kind of car is that??!" and it's usually just something simple and common. But gotta love her for trying. She brought me back a picture she took one time and was like "hey check this out, what kind of car is this?" I could tell she thought it was something really special. I looked at the pic. It was a Pontiac Trans Am. I told her it was a cool car though!

One time she did land a nice one. She showed me a pic she took, after a trip in Missouri, of a car she thought looked cool. It was a black Ferrari 308! I was so proud :)

My son was driving my 550 when a group of young boys came by, one asked if it was the "new mustang" when told no it was a Ferrari his friends descended on him like vultures (WHAT ARE FRIENDS FOR)...... my Maserati QP has been mistaken for a Buick (three vents) and my ZR1 corvette was mistaken for a Ferrari (at a distance by friends of mine that know I have Ferraris). So, there is no hope for the non-enthusiast. They all have just to much in common.... two doors, 1 windshield, 4 tires... ect ect...

The new Corvette's side door scoop is like a 456, and the tail lights are round, but even in the corner of my eye while they blow by at high speed, I don't think I'd confuse any Corvette with any Ferrari. It's also weird that the new Corvettes have so much outside styling with such a bland and boring interior.

Still, I have to say I can relate to some of the other posts here. There are many times when a guy is standing in front of my F-car, and he tells his gal that the doors go up in the air on all Ferraris.

My Datsun 240Z is mistaken for a Ferrari all the time. I hear it at the gas station. From others,”that ain’t no rice burner”. I custom designed the body work after the 250GTO. The Chevy 350 speaks for it self.

FYI, Corvettes had side scoops and round tail lights years before Ferraris had them...

    Wrong again.

Ferrari's had round tail lights in 1947.

There are lots of people who love cars but don't know all classics. But from the Porsche hat/jacket combo, and probably trying to impress his girl, the guy sounded like an insecure tool referring to your car as a kit car - he should have simply asked you about the car (I would have).

I'll go out on a limb and ask what the car is in the picture because I simply do not know (and this is coming from someone who has had several 911s and a 360 spider)? What does J6 refer to? Its looks like a classic Ferrari or Porsche. I love sports cars but without knowing much about (what appears to be) classic race cars, I can't tell from the picture (i.e. I see no branding) what it is - but it looks awesome. How could the guy just let you get in and not pepper you with questions, ask to hear it, see the engine, etc. I would have been all over it.

I'm guessing Ferrari for these reasons - I've seen your other posts here and understand you are an avid collector, and from looking carefully at the picture, I see the hood vents are shaped like those on an F50 (but maybe Porsche had such similar shaped vents on its classics? - I don't know much about older race cars). It's a very cool car however.

J6 isn't a Ferrari. On the day that mattered it was driven by these guys 3300 miles in 24 hours.

J6 is THE FAMOUS GT-40. it was at LeMans and was there when Ferrari was beaten by Ford! to be honest, i cant remember which GT-40 won Le Mans, but i think Mr Napolis's car was 2nd in that race, with 2 or 3 GT-40's in the race.

Dan Gurney and AJ Foyt were the drivers.

That's awesome. I've spent the last 20 minutes trying to figure it out googling J6, looking at various classic images, etc. Would have never guess a Ford. 3300 miles in 24 hours = Rolex 24 hours at daytona?

What year was the race (i.e. how old is the car?)? I have a good friend who drove in the Daytona 24 hour Rolex race (he was 2002 US Ferrari Challenege champion - maybe you know him as well?).

The real problem is....there are too many Vettes in the USA;), here in SA we dont have any new Vettes at all and hence few people confuse a Ferrari with anything else though I did once see a lady point at a 599 and say "what a nice Porsche" much to my horror.

1966-1970? From what I learned these were the years Ford beat Ferrari after ford was denined the chance to buy them in '65. I was born in '67.

Didn't both the 1947 Ferrari 125 and 166 have one round tail "light"...not tail lights?

That's all that was required in 1947. When a second one was required they put another on. They were round. Perhaps these photos will help you understand whether or not Ferrari or Corvette first had side coves.

As many have said people relate what they know to what they do not know - a sports car automatiallcy becomes a corvette to them. The name becomes the generic - like Kleenex or aspirin.

When I moved to FL after growing up in PA I had a similar non-automotive experience. At a restaraunt I was asked what I wanted to drink. A Coke I replied. Only to be asked what kind? Curious, I asked what they had to offer. "Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew, 7Up, or Root Beer!

Just this weekend we were running from MD down to Williamsburg VA for the Inaugural Ferraris on the vine at the Williamsburg Winery (Awesome event by the way). Stopping just 3 miles east of the middle of no-where for a potty break we were asked "what kind of cars are those" by a group sitting at the front of the store. Sitting on the other side of the gas pumps were 2 348s, a TR, and a 365GTC. We said they were Ferraris. One of the locals replies: "yeah, they are made by Ford"...

A guy kept circling my buddy's Lotus Elise in a parking lot before piping up "Them Italians, they're somethin' else aren't they?" My buddy just replied with "They sure are" as he got in and drove away...

Here's a first, I am disagreeing with Napolis (but only in the most kiss-as.s sense) . . . that 'Ford' matters now. It's just that it mattered more then. (Wish Ford would remember when.)

So was the correct answer Gurney and Foyt ? If you have a J6 series GT40. That has to be some piece of history to be driving that. Very cool.

Have some fun with it and rebadge the car as a Corvette and throw everyone off.

I drove the 360 this weekend to pu Chinese carryout, woman approaches w/two kids and asks me if it was a new Mustang. I said it was the Fiat version of the new Mustang. People can be funny.
