My fabricator made them from stainless for me as I'm pretty sure they are not available anywhere. He went above and beyond what I was expecting.
As far as the exhaust system goes ---- oops! Cross-overs are a no-no for flat crank engines. They have a performance benefit for the 90 degree V engines (american sports cars like the Mustang, Vette, etc.), but they actually hurt power on the 180 degree 308 engine. Ferrari has never put a cross-over exhaust system on any of their V-8 or V-12 cars (that were flat crank engines) --- Do you honestly think that is because they don't know what they're doing?!
I was'nt aware that the x-pipe would be a detriment to the performance. This is I think the 4th exhaust Ive had on the car and I really like the exhaust note with the pipe in place. Plus it was a nice way to tie the 2 pieces together I had'nt noticed any performance loss with this exhaust but I'd be interested on your input. Although the car is going back to the shop in 2 weeks for a turbo installation so this system will be a garage ornament soon. (will miss the sound but we all gotta make sacrifices) thx for the input
My 1978 308 GTS is #23883 The door jab says March 1978. My engine is marked F106AE (the F106A is cast like your picture and the E was added with a stamp). The number below is *00160. Looks like a very early E motor? I didn't check my carb numbers. Aaron

Don't wish to be misunderstood --- the cross-over certainly won't hurt anything. The power loss can be minimal, and may be un-noticeable except to a dyno pull. It makes sense that it could sound great, certainly way different to any other system as the cross-over could introduce some very unique harmonics... Any chance you can post a sound file --- either here or on YouTube, etc.?? I'm sure we all would be very keen to hear how it sounds. cheers
After a brief altercation with a curb at the local parts store (the curb won BTW) I decided I was tired od the 4 shades of red along with the black pieces on the rockers and had the whole car painted. No more oldsmobile or whatever color it was on the car red. It was away for 12 months and had new black carpets and door panels done also (away goes the ugly brown). Welded up all the extra holes and went to euro marker lights. Still need to fab a rear valance and run the hoses for the front brake ducts (front valance from berlinetta) but now its time to just drive the snot out of it. The rear end of that car is really sexy. The wide semi-slicks look fantastic under that bodywork. It's not outrageous in terms of aesthetics--looks very high-end and very tasteful. Also very purposeful. Since there are plenty of 308's, I don't see the harm in modding one to this level. If it were one of five, it would be more of an outrage. I'd hope the purists can appreciate it. Looks great.
I was down with all of it, until it got to the rear view and I saw the - gasp - taillights. The horra!

Do you think those wide rear slicks are gonna overstress the hub/suspension bits? Not so sure these old cars were built to sustain that kind of g-loads.... ?? Greg
That is one awesome-looking 308. Do you have pictures of the interior...? Since you first started this thread, have you been able to learn additional details about the car's history...? Thanks for taking the time to post pictures and tell us all of the things you've done to the car. I think it looks fantastic.
Funny you should mention that...I was thinking the same thing. Similarly, I love what he did with the car...EXCEPT for the rear tires. OP- Why did you put such wide tires on?
I've always loved the look from the back of the Michelotto cars (made me all tingly inside) As far as hub failure, the koenig cars have been running tires as wide and wider for forever with no mods to the hubs. Michelotto cars? who knows what extra magic they may have done back there. Thus so far all's been good. If it does break on the track? I guess I'll be fabing up some new bits. And thats the fun part

I think it looks fantastic, wide tires and all. I'm keeping mine all original, only because I can't afford proper mods like that. Who wouldn't really love to have a car like that, man it's just beautiful. Congratulations to you!
Boy that 308 cleaned up well. Still badass but not so over the top. Wheels stick out a tad to much in the rear for my taste but overall real nice.
