there was a white/blue 959 in the Dr. Phillips area of Orlando in the early to mid-1990's. I remember seeing it about a dozen times and talked to the owner once. he even let me sit in it. great looking car.

This doesn't answer the original question...

In 1988, when I was 16, I had a friend who’s father owned a 911 that he bought at Al Holbert’s Porsche in Pennsylvania. At the time, Al ran Porsche Motorposrts North America. I think there was an IndyCar or IMSA team based in a shop behind the dealer. One day my friend called me to tell me that Porsche had imported several 959 Sports, the single mirror car, claiming they were track only cars. The cars were lined up outside, behind the dealer. I high tailed it to the dealer and took two rolls of film. I later heard that the DOT ruled that the cars were clearly meant for road use, which they were not certified to do, and made Porsche send them all back. The point is, Porsche did import at least 9 959s at some point, but had to send them all back.

I've seen one 959, and snapped a couple pics of it with my cell phone at the time. Lost those pictures a few years ago in a hard drive crash though. Very beautiful car. I had to ask the guys in the shop where the car was parked outside of if it was real or a re-bodied 911, they told me it was real. This was in Downers Grove, IL

I saw one at Champion Motors in south Florida with tag so I guess street legal, it was a customer car and not for sale, this was like a year ago. Another in Prestige Imports back in '92 I believe for sale and street legal, the color was silver.

Never seen one in real life but would love to. It's one of the few Porche's I can tell apart from the others! It really does have great lines but I don't know much about the performance. Anybody have specs?

Somewhere else here someone posted pics of a silver one which was a kit on a 993 IIRC. It was supposedly a daily. But was that in CO?

I saw a silver one in a Prestige ad back in the mid-'90s. Probably around '96 or '97. I think they said it was royalty owned. It was $375k.

My father owned a 959 in 93/94. It came back year before from Japan and was factory upgraded to Sport spec. He quite often drove it and soon got in touch with a collector in the Munich area. This gentleman had 6 959's in his collection, incl. Boris Becker's car what should be the biggest 959 collection on the planet. Last time I personally saw him and his red 959 sport was in 1999. Maybe someone else can add some information.

it was in the summer of 1986 so just spot on the official introduction that i visited Austria when i saw one driving.
I try to follow it but lost it due to a train passing...

just anxious to see it again i followed the road and after two miles i came across a nice big house with a big garden... and there it was.
I actually spoke to the owner and even asked him if he could put it in a nices spot for photografy, he did! He told me that indeed this was a first-version of the 959 and he was driving it to find any late misages. He told also he was a grandson of the old Ferdinand Porche himself. .....

As said, I was allowed to take a lot of pictures. I will look for them, scan tham and post some.

Very nice story Steven! You probably met Wolfgang or more likely Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. Looking forward to the pictures!

i absolutely love the 959..i like how it is not all flashy and crazy like the f40, and still manages to be quite an engineering masterpiece..

I found the pictures in our photobook of our holidays in 1986
The guy's name we talked too indeed was Wolfgang. The car was brandnew than and had only a few 100 km on the odo.
4 attacted pictures, ( on one of them my former girlfriend who happened to be my wife now...)

I remember taking lots of pictures than, but, in the age of photography which actually involved putting a real film into a camara 4 pictures was considdered a lot I guess:):))

As it was said the F40's purpose wasnt to race in the Paris Dakkar. However, the F40 did win several GT championships against Porsches, Jaguars XJ220 and other period GT cars.

Steven thanks for sharing your 959 pictures! The last picture is especially nice. You were certainly in the right place at the right time. The original styling of the car was done very quickly by designers to meet a tight deadline for production. A couple of years ago there was a red 959 Sport version for sale in Germany with only delivery miles...
