Just wanted to share this with you guys. Went to a friend's house last saturday with the 328 and my buddy tells me:"If you ever think of selling it I might be interested". Yesterday went to the gararge and the owner tells me: "Is it for sale? You know it's our favorite car here." And then this other client comes up to me and tells me: "You're the 328 owner? It's beautiful, if ever you want to sell I'm interested." Well you know what? NO WAY! Mamma mia do I love that car!
Recently on 3 different occasions I have been offered 55+K for my 328 , more than I paid for it last August. As noted, the answer has been, "It's not for sale.!"
Very strongly considering selling mine. Long story short, though I certainly do drive the car, the expense and irritation of owning the damn thing weighs more heavily than the enjoyment of its use.
I have spoken to loads of former 328 owners that all tell me the same thing. To a one they all say they regret selling it. Including the previous owner of my car. (Sorry, Dave. She's mine now.) They say a wise man learns from his mistakes, but a wiser one learns form the mistakes of others. Not for sale.
Had one for 4 Years 97-01 then a 355 for 4 Years, 550, 575 and 2 x 599, always missed the 328 so bought another a Year ago and this ones a keeper
My 328, bought in 2006, is my first Ferrari. After so many years dreaming about one and soooo many hours working on it, I'm not selling it either !!! Besides, it's just too beautiful ... a true classic
+1 to all of you! the timeless beauty of the 3x8 is not to be compared with any of its newer couterparts. I own two already, and they are both NOT for sale.
I once talked to an former executive of a mega-size company, he had good size Ferrari collection, his 1st Ferrari was a 328 which he still have, he said something about passing it on to his daughter. I bought my 328 some 10 years ago, during that year, I bought the Ferrari and another new SUV which cost the same as the Ferrari. Now the SUV worths about $6,000 and I think as my 328 worths about that much or little so there's no point of selling it, I'll keep both the SUV and the 328.
I've been asked point blank a couple of time: "How much do you want for it?" by total strangers walking up to me or driving along side. Since there isn't a "for sale sign" on my car, I find it very rude... Who the hell do they think they are?
Back when I had my Fiat Spider (which was in mint condition) I had three people continuously tell me that when I would decide to sell my car, they wanted to buy!! Well...when it was time to sell, I contacted these folks. Guess what?? They all came up with the lamest excuses as why NOT to buy it, or why they couldn't buy it.....blah, blah, bah!!! Next time some one asks, reply "show me the money!!"
Big talkers ... Most of the time those people are not serious, I think they just want to say in a different way: I can afford your car, even though if in fact they cannot. Like all those people saying: I know somebody who has the same car as yours and I even had the chance to drive it! I am always astonished how it seems easy or common for everybody to make such affirmations! UpNorth, would be fun to also explain to people that your 328 is not for sale even though you also own a Testrossa! How do they compare!?! Maybe you could elaborate on this in a dedicated thread! Cheers!
Jedi? 70K?! Really? Good. Gawd. God bless you, my brother. I wouldn't DREAM of putting that much into one of these. I'm probably about 42-43K in and THAT'S IT! I can NOT see spending so much money on a car that is driven SO infrequently. And, bear in mind, I DO drive the car around 3K/year; not something like 500 miles/year. But, even at that, the car still sits in the garage a good deal of the time. When I first started my foray into Ferrari ownership, my goal was to get into a good car for 25-30K, knowing what my driving habits/useage would likely be. I could see spending 25K for a "toy", but it's now, for me, getting out of hand. And it's really not the money (yes...I know...it's ALWAYS the money), it's more the money vs "reward". In short, I do not, nor can I, drive the car enough to make the rewards outweigh the often ridiculous dollars necessary to keep the thing on the road. Furthermore, and pursuant to this thought process, every mile I put on the car allows for its value to plummet in the eyes of prosepective buyers or, potentially, in the future, any appreciation. I do love the car, and realize that life is short; these are some of the main reasons I bought the car in the first place. But what is the old adage?..."Having is often not so nice a thing as wanting". I have had some major pains in the ass with this car and now have another one -- ignition wires; it NEVER seems to end. What's next? Clutch? Starter? Water pump? Etc., Etc., Etc., Etc., Etc., Etc., ad nauseum. At this rate, I'll have a hunk of gorgeous Italian metal parked in my garage that I've spent 60K on and that, again, I drive all of 250 miles/month. I realize that Ferrari ownership is about passion and emotion and that pragmatism is often subservient to these, but at what point do we look at things a little more "realistically" and decide "enough is enough"? For me that point is rapidly approaching. Cordially, Mr. Sunshine
of course none of you will be selling...what else would you get? 328 is a stunner and not to be replaced so the thread ends here... enjoy your fantastic 328's!!!!! best, pcb
Yep, everything is for sale.... for the right price. Like they say in Jerry McGuire, "Show me the money!"
At this point the comparison is simple: The 328 is running, the TR is not. I haven't been able to drive it yet since the steering rack is being rebuilt as we are speaking. I didn't pass the provincial inspection because of this. So stand by for a comparative match.
My car is not for sale, but I just got it last September. I have been able to drive it about every two weeks, even in the winter and with my very busy schedule. Unlike most on this forum, I still paying for it! My extra income makes it possible to have this car, and I am just a working guy. I have but about $600 in it since I got it, which was mostly having the oil and brake fluid changed and having it inspected first by a mechanic that works on Ferrari's and then by the dealer. There is a few things that I will be doing before the onset of summer, and plan to have the belts/bearings done in the fall. But, even with the minimum car payment, the insurance and all the rest, this car is not for sale. I know I can sell it for more than I owe, and I know there is going to be a cost of ownership, worse case, I rather have a broken down, non-running Ferrari sitting in the garage, than not. Someone mentioned earlier about previous owners being "sad" about giving up their 328's, and I can understand that. I don't want to join that group. I will part with it when it is the right time. It might be when I am dead, or just ready to move on to something else, but I will enjoy while I have the chance, just like my other fun cars. As long as the smile is there when I walk into the garage or when I turn the key, I understand why the car is here. Enjoy it, life is really short, and can change at any moment.......... Bob
There is nothing else to get. The longer I'm at this, the less I'm interested in the newer stuff. The F40 is the only modern-ish Ferrari I can think of that I would take over a 328 (money notwithstanding). And even then I would rather keep my 328 and add the F40. That really is one for the ages.
I have had my euro 308 for 7 years and have had offers from 3 Ferrari owners that when I am ready to sell, they are ready to make an offer. I'm just not ready to sell.
TRUE STORY A while back, discussing with my wife, I said that should we move to Australia, in case it is impossible to bring the 328 with us, we should consider selling it. My younger kid (10) says: No way, when you die that is for me! The older one (13) than says: Dad, that is not fair! I am older, when you die I have first choice, and I want it! That tells you family's attitude. In order to avoid fights, I am now on the market for a nice 348 to add... Ciao Eugenio
Add my car to the "Not for sale" list. Someday I will get another Ferrari (550) wish I have an extra $90,000 as there seems to be some good deals now, but it will have to wait a few years, but the 328 stays. As Steve Ahlgrim says in Keith Martin's book COLLECTING FERRARI "In my opinion the 328 is the best built, most reliable Ferrari ever. Period." That says alot.
Ha, you will have to buy Ton's 348 when he has finished with it, and tell Luca and Dario not to argue did you get my e-mail OK ?
