When I bought the car there was (Kumho?)Ventus 102 (?) mounted on the rear wheels. Since I have OZ split a bit wider than original I use 265 40 17 rims. Now, I bought new tyres......TOYO.........not the admiral.........the rubber. My problem is ..........the car moves like a snake when you get over 100 mph.........feels VERY peculiar indeed. Never happened with the old rims. I have 2,6 kgs acc to the booklet and this is either way too much..........or little ..........I do not know. Anyone know which way to go.........up or down???? //B//
Did you buy four new Toyo's, or just two for the rears? I've heard a lot of bad reports about 348's handling poorly after replacing only the rear tires. My own 348 was undriveable with two new Bridgestones on the rear. It was fine with worn Bridgestones on the rear, and it was fine after replacing all four, but with only the two new ones on the rear, YIKES! It was terrible!
The front tyres are ok so I let them be........ Tried again yesterday on the highway ..........120 mph.........and it is not fun........feels extremely unstable. Got to try with several different air pressures....... I will start from 2,0 kgs and go up from there. //B//
Well, everyone seem to say that dont they?? I replaced only my rears and have NOT had any handling issues at all. The car is still VERY driveable and I just got home from a spirited drive just then.
Now I have 2,4 kgs in the front wheels and 2,0 kgs aft............. Drivable up to 220 kph..........137 mph Last year we passed the 260 (163mph) mark without any problem at all. Now I will try with 2,2 both ends and see what happens.......... //B//
348's are notorious for having bad handling if the tires are not matching or properly inflated. If you Google Ferrari 348 and then click on Wikipedia, there is a tread as well about this issue. Pressure has to be "on the ball".
Don't tires ship with some kind of crap still on/in them from the manufacturing process? I think it's something to help release them from the molds, and it eventually wicks out after a 100 or so miles. When I was slamming my ex-911 around constantly and going through Toyo RA-1's, Yoke A-032s, and other hot tires like a madman, I always noticed especially with new rears that both high speed handling and low speed handling SUCKED. Grip was super unpredictable, and very squirrely. After a break in, though, I could run completely different brands with no problems. Call me crazy, I know, but it's the grease, man! Sorry if you've done the break-in process already, hope I could help.
.......and she was still accelerating........believe it or not...... High flow cats.......customised exhaust.....lowered to the bottom....and in a tunnel between Sweden and Denmark......hard to beat. My wife stopped me from going faster......with totally worn out Kumho Ventus tyres. They were closer to slicks than normal and the car was just behaving super. //B//
.......haven´t done 50 miles yet even.......guess I have to wait and see before I buy a set of Kumho again...... //B//
Brutha ! What that means ? Are you trying to speak italian ? I got it, you are teasing my last name !!!!!
No, he is not teasing you for your last name. Brutha is slang here for brother... And NV is a big, flat, open state where you can get any car up to its maximum speed realtively safely! BT
Called the importer of the Toyo Tyres and explained the situation.............. He was very kind indeed and offered immediately to buy the tyres back.........no charges whatsoever. Now I have gone back to Hankook and they work perfect. One thing that might have an affect on fast driving is that on the Toyo tyres there was a V-shaped thread and on the new Hankook there are straight threads........... Maybe something to look into if you are facing same problems as I had........ //B//
I just had a problem with handling myself. When I pressed the throttle at speed, the car would move to the left and then back to the right when I let off. PAP was the one who told me to check my pressures. One of them was only 5 lbs off from the rest. That was it! Amazing how touchy the 348's are on tire pressure. My tires are all new but I just wanted to emphasize the importance of correct tire pressures. Thanks again PAP!
