Definitely need to do that. I haven't been, but quite a few friends have gone as competitors. It's awesome!

IIWY, I would go with Grand Prix Tours or some other "guided tour." They arrange hotel room blocks, transfers, meals.

It's a LOT nicer the first time going with others who know the lay of the land.

I see that the 2010 event is on May 8th & 9th. Has anyone been before and do you have any tips for a 'first timer'?

    Many Thanks

Went to the most recent one and highly recommend it. We met friends from Glasgow and stayed in Nice and took the train to Monaco (early train on Sunday morning was crammed full of people). Will do same again in May - staying at the Ibis that's adjacent to the gare in Nice (80€ per night), many hotels in Nice already fully booked. Nice is more convenient for us as we fly in and out of there. Got our tickets from www.justtickets.co.uk (we get our LeMans tkts from them also, great folks) and it was something like 30GBP for the weekend - had seating anywhere in grandstand K - (here's the description of K from an F1 site: Accessible via a walkway, it is one of the biggest grandstands, ideally located in the Monaco Harbour. With a large seating capacity, this popular grandstand offers an unrestricted view of the harbour part of the circuit, from where the cars exit of the Nouvelle Chicane up to the first “S” of the swimming pool section, including the Tabac corner. The Tabac Corner is a 155km/h 3rd gear left-hander and on entry the drivers cannot see the corner exit – so they must have absolute faith in the car and the marshals. The K1 section of this grandstand is not available for the public on Sunday. A massive hillside bigscreen provides you with the opportunity to follow other parts of the race.)

Anyway, you walk from the gare into town, past the Ferrari dealer and to the stand. The F1 description of the stand is definitely accurate and if you sat or stood in the top row of the stand, you could look over and watch the start of the race. The view from this stand is far superior to buying a ticket and sitting at Rascasse or at Ste Devote as you can actually see the cars and more of the event. When the event was over on Saturday, we walked the circuit - checking out Lady Moura and all the other various craft in port. We found a fantastic restaurant - Bilig on Rue Princess Caroline (at the end of the garages when walking towards Ste Devote turn left down a pedestrian way). We walked thru the paddock after the race on Sunday - I've inquired with Paul at Just Tickets about the possibility of securing a paddock pass if available. FYI, in all our journeys to races we never use a tour group - much better doing it on our own - the money we save equals more trips to more events. (one tour group is offering 3 nights and hospitality with viewing of race from the hotel (sure would miss most of the action) for GBP 2,195 based on two people - OUCH - you canj make your own hospitality from the grocery store that's open on Saturday only adjacent to the stand!) I am crossing my fingers that this event and the LMS Spa race won't be on the same weekend again.

    Hope this helps you.

    I went there last year.
It was really cool : you can access to paddock to see the F1 (unfortunately not the Ferrari F1 which were in a special area).
Sound of F1 engines inside Monaco streets is something unreal.

But have a good choice for your seats because there are many seats where you can see a very little portion of the track. I was just in front of the stand, it was nice.
If your hotel is not in Monaco, advice: use the train rather than a car. No parking, no traffic. I saved a lot of time last year coming from Nice to Monaco by train.

I try to post some pics and unexpected error occurs. Will try later.
Enjoy this event next year !

Absolutely the best time. I was lucky enough to be staying at the Hotel de Paris on the Casino Square. The paddocks were open when we arrived on Fri eavening and as we walked along we were able to talk to mechanics working on a couple cars.

The view from the terrace of the hotel is down the hill to the harbor, or you can look almost directly down on the cars as you are just about on top of them.

Thanks for the heads up - Debbie and Paul from Just Tickets have us on their ticket renewal lists for this and the 24h. Already have flights booked and a room paid for in Nice - couldn't beat the hotel price with the extra incentive to pre-pay! Even if the prices are up, it's as you say a very good value for the weekend and the seats in K anywhere you want to sit were fantastic. (I'm just hoping that LMS Spa will not be the same weekend.)
