I wonder if it is worth waiting for the 2010 997 tt with the PDK or even the 'new generation' turbo to see if they can finally build a Ferrari beater or equalizer. The sales guy I talked to at Porsche who has been there a long time knows no details on either.

Yes, it had the sports chrono package and I did push the sports plus button. I only took it up to 5-6000rpm. Maybe I have to test drive the PDK again but when I test drove an M3 with DCT I felt it shifted instantaneously. I would consider getting an M3 but I can't get over the poor gas mileage. I was told in city driving to expect about 12 mpg! The 911 has an EPA estimate of 19mpg in the city. Right now I'm leaning toward the 997 C2S. I just have to decide whether to get a manual or PDK. I think the 997 will make a very fun daily driver.

I have a 997TT, and I have raced a f430, I won with 3 guys in the car, and the F430 with 2. To replace my 997TT with an F430, no BUT i'll get the f430. I love both.

As past president of the Jersey Shore Porsche Club of America and current owner of a 2001 Modena, I can tell you the Porsche experience is great but the Ferrari is magic!

I have owned both there is no choice. Some years ago I picked up a Twin Turbo X50 at the Factory in Stuttgart and drove the car in Europe for a month putting on close to 6,000 miles. Wherever we went we got admiring looks and people thumping their hearts when they saw the car. I thought at the time that the car is great - it's quicker than my ferrari (a red 355 spider at the time), handles better, gets better gas mileage (23 mpg, even on the autobahn), can hold at least 3 carry-on suitcases plus plenty of room on the jump seats, never had to worry whether it would start on a cold morning or had to turn off the battery at night, had a radio that worked and even had a spare tire. It was problem free, no $5,000 15,000 mile service, long warranty, good dealer network etc., really a perfect car. But, guess what? At the end of the day it was not a Ferrari! It didn't have the sounds, the passion, the ability to raise my blood pressure at red line - it just wasn't a Ferrari. I now have an '08 430 Spider and still feel the same way. If you're not going to drive it every day - there is no choice - get the "Red" car.

I've just bought a 997 Turbo as my daily driver and agree with the above post. The 997 is superbly capable in nearly every way imaginable, but, you really don't get the sense of occasion as you do in a Ferrari. I get the goose bumps the day before I know that I'm taking the Ferrari out for a drive, I really do.

The 997 is like your wife, dependable, trustworthy, honest and desireable. The Ferrari is like your "bit on the side", you know, the one who telephone's you when she shouldn't and talks dirty to you! ;)

You were right until the end.

Even if he is to use the car everyday I'll say get the Ferrari, one only has so much time to enjoy whatever it is while on this plane.

I see much potential destructive energy in that ladder position, man.

That's funny...my wife said the same thing. I have since secured the ladders with a bungie cord. It's all good.

Tempted to do this ealier, now I see so many of us. Man we know good cars. 911 and a mid Ferrari. U wouldn't be wanting anything more for a while. Not road cars at least. Now I am looking for Challenge car.

I love the 997TT ecued, air and exhaust this guy. does over 550ps now. what a monster. NO replacement for it. And the 430, Oh tell me about it, NO replacement for it so I need both.

997TT 6 speed - work commute, blasting to 60 in 3.X seconds everytime, manual fun, does not stand out, wide is only 1850, thats -100 from the 430, so park anywhere, no showoff. used 20 days or more per month - short drives, cheaper maintenance, tougher car, steel brakes, get to save milage on both cars when sharing. german and intelligent, socially acceptable, milage is 6500km per year.

Ferrari F1 - long tours out, circuit runs, major hotels and parties, showoff - used 2-5 times a month on long long tours (300-1,000km per use sometime. milage is 6500km after 1 year. - classy and elegant, flamboyant, playful, does not get you girls, some people hate the guts of it and sound scares and pisses everyone off (special exhaust), socially unacceptable

I don't think all Ferraris are exotics anymore, there are a lot of exotic Ferraris, but the internet, tv exposure, name prostitution for clothing etc... all this has made Ferrari a household name and we see them far too often as to drop jaws/turn heads as back in the years previous to the '90s. I remember back in 1985 a 308 would break far more necks than a 360 or F430 today.

I've had several Porsches, and they drive really nicely, but they are like flies--everywhere. Don't get me wrong, they are wonderful cars, but they border on exotic. Ferrari is exotic.

Nice combo! Ferrari and Porsche supercars with their siblings! I'm identical with the F40 replaced with an Enzo, and a Ruf Turbo R for sentimental reasons.
