So... I am going to drive on down to CA this weekend and for whatever reason i had this horrible thought of getting a flat tire on the way. How sucky that would be. I figured someone with more roadtrip experience than me probably had a nice checklist of things they like to bring with... Care to share? Also, if there is a flat tire, whats a good roadside service to use for the Ferrari's that crosses through WA/OR/CA? I've only had incidents locally... ;)

All you need is a cell phone and Tino's cell number. :)

Or, FNA roadside assist will always get you a flatbed to best location.

Les Schwab has always been good to us, and they're everywhere as far down as Mid-CA.

On the other hand, with over 150K miles on road trips all around and across the US in Ferraris in the last 6 years, we've only had a tire problem twice. Once in middle of nowhere Nevada (ran over a BIG rock) and Roadside Assist was great. 150 mile tow was arranged with one call, and truck was there within 30 minutes of our call. Other was a slow leak on a Sunday in Santa Fe and we actually found a Discount Tire Center that had the exact tire in stock.

Find something else to stress about. And have a great trip. I'm doing same trip in a few weeks.

    You forgot the cell phone.

If you're going a really long way, or some place obscure, a list of local Ferrari mechanics is not a bad idea. For a trip from Seattle to the Bay Area, I wouldn't bother.

not this trip! this is just to redwood city although i had a friend trying to convince me to hit up vegas as well. i checked the route and it says from redwood city to drive down to la and cut across -- crazy business!

i spoke briefly with tino today he also commented that new cars have FNA road service while they are under warranty or something. i don't normally think about these things much, go figure.

a few months back when i had a (flying) trip to dc, i had a dream with the grim reaper in it. this of course was shortly after some plan crashed in new york. so clearly i am getting old and not watching enough horror movies in the process.

By rapid mathematical calculation that means you've hit 25k Ferrari miles per year. Does anybody else doubt that the new club Pres is being very conservative....

Oh wait he didn't say Bentley. :)
Massive apologies, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Absolutely get AAA. It's cheap and effective. I drive about 15-20,000 miles a year on road trips just for fun and I'd never travel without it. If you're going to get a flat it most often starts as a slow leak so a bottle of fix-a-flat is easy enough to store and should get you out of most trouble... but that kind of trouble on the open road really isn't that common. It's rare that I see someone pulled over in a car dealing with a flat tire. As for trucks, it's typically a retread going to hell after 50,000 miles or something. An iPhone is a huge help and can get your hotel sorted out as you travel. It's as handy as a GPS with a good database. I also take a couple of garbage bags in case of a spill or for dealing with rags, etc. They are easy to tuck away. Also a few ziplock bags come in handy as I tend to accumulate little things like change, receipts, little odds and ends that I don't want to deal with.

Pistol, holster, belt, magazine pouch, spare mag, box of ammo. Spare batteries for flashlight and cell phone. Skip the hunting knife, substitute a quality folding knife that you can carry on your person. I always keep a multi-tool gizmo in each of my cars, from Gerber or Leatherman.

I carry a "road box" in my car, even for local events.
Basic tools like, 1/4" drive metric sockets, 3/8" drive metric sockets, Torx drivers, a roll-up bag of metric wrenches, 8mm to 22mm.
Pliers, channel locks, needle nose pliers and vice grips.
Assorted screw drivers from large flat and philips down to jewelers size.
I also carry some basic electrical items like tape, razor knife, connectors, a roll of wire and most importantly, various sizes of cable ties.
All of this takes no more room than a breadbox.

On some trips I take a roll of DUCT tape.. You may not think you need it until that bizarre event occurs, like flying road debris breaking your side view mirror loose so it's dangling down the side of your door. A club member had this happen to his TR on the way to the Olympic Peninsula. Cable ties and duct tape!!

I don't have enough luggage space in my car for all that. I just call AAA if I've got a problem. The Duct tape is a good suggestion, but I never carry it. Besides you never know who you have to restrain. :)

It sounds like a lot but it all fits in a box smaller than a breadbox, about the same space as a pair of high healed shoes. I have AAA as well but like having the options for the minor stuff, especially if I'm trying to make time..
