I could not pass this up. The 308gtb purchased on the cheap about 4 years ago has turned into a bigger project than anticipated, so
I have been looking for another 308 in better shape to drive. I came across this '90 348ts that was owned by a tulsan about a week
ago and jumped on it It has 18" speedline mod wheels with new tires & tubi exhaust. The immediate things taken care of after I bought
it were oil change, gear oil change to redline, new battery and cables (to get rid of the bullet connectors) It's a fantastic drive and
the sound it makes is best part!

The paint is somewhat on the weak side and the front valance is beat up because it is so low. It was in slightly better condition before i grounded it a couple of times.
There are minor electrical problems I have to deal with (slow power windows, gas fill release doesn't work. It has had the 30k service done(it now has about 25k on the odo)but the service
due because it has been more than 5 years. It also has a salvage title but it appears everything was properly repaired. So far I have less than $25k invested in the car!

Good find dude. Do you know what the salvage title was for?

As for performance, I too had a 308GTS at the same time as the 348 and there was a power difference but the 308 held it's own because I had it tuned for max power at max RPM's.

It has been awhile since I drove the 308, but for what I can recall, this car seems to be easier to drive. There is more torque, the clutch is lighter, and overall better
performance and handling. The 308 shift quality might be better, especially when cold. It seems when the drive is long enough and the transmission is good and hot,
the shift into 2nd is smooth.
The records I have show that the accident happened some years ago while the car was owned by Bobby Labonte. Most of the right side panels were
replaced as well as the windshield. The cost of the repair was around $40k! That might have made sense 6 or 7 years ago, These days the car would
    likely have been scrapped.
I really appreciate all of the ferrari related wisdom available here. Maybe when I get a little more experience I can post something useful here instead
    of lurking so much. Thanks!

Good deal! If your car is having some difficulty shifting when cold, you can change over to some of the recommended redline products. Most people here like the Superlight Shockproof with some friction modifier added. I used Redline MTL based on Brian Crall's recommendation and it works great!

I'm confused, I thought it had a salvage title? Does a repair consitute salvage? Was the car scrapped by Labonte and salvaged by a new owner???

That's what I was thinking. 40K is a lot more than a couple of panels and windshield.

ha, you know that's actually true. a US 348 spider does 0-60 in 5.6 and a euro 308 GTB only a tenth or two slower. :D

I don't know about this. The carfax shows that the vehicle was wrecked on 10/24/2000 "right front impact with another motor vehicle moderate damage reported"
Records suggest that the insurance company declared it a total loss. A salvage title was then issued about a year later. Itemization of the repair shows front body
section, bumper, valance, header, hood, right and left fender, rails, right quarter panel, inner quarter, right headlight assembly, marker and fog lights, windshield,
grille required replacement. It all seems to fit together with good gaps and no evidence of repair. The finish is ok except the hood is kind of dull. I thought the hood
would have been made of aluminum but is seems to be some kind of composite material that maybe was not prepared correctly prior to paint. Also it looks as
if the masking was a little sloppy as there is black paint on the rear screen rubber. But it looks great anyway!

    No way!!

I almost bought that car myself. Wasn't even looking for another 348 but it was a steal. Guy's name was "Staiche" and is in Tulsa, right?? Seemed like a good guy. I talked to him a couple times at length about it a few weeks ago.

As far as I remember, it wasn't a Salvage Title but did show as "Wrecked" on CarFax.

Anyway, nice buy. If I wasn't in pursuit of a different car right now, I would have bought it myself. Heck he was offering it for "lower end" 308 money. Can't beat that price. I was looking at it to sell the body pieces and get a Koenig setup for it.

    Nice work!

Yes, that is the one. Not many cars come up for sale in my area. Usually the deals are in CA or NY and by the time I could get there to check them out they are gone.
Tulsa is only 3 hrs from here so for once I had an advantage. I think if Staiche's ebay ad would have stayed up it would have sold for more $$$

Dave, Did you have any trouble getting your car insured? My insurance company (Allstate) won't do full coverage on a car with a salvage title.
