I need a good shop in Northern California, somewhere around Sacramento would be good, but not necessary. I have several projects that need a little bit better guy.

An overall good guy who can do a good job with Kustom leather fabrication, boat carpet, refinishing existing vintage leather and whatever else is needed would be a great find for me.

    thanks, Jay

I've used Hank's Upholstery in Alameda in the past. He does great work! Everything from concours cars to boats to daily drivers! I haven't needed any upholstery work lately and I'm not sure if Hank still owns or runs the place, but the quality was superb the last time I used him which was about 10 years ago.

I have the name number of a gal in the biz for over 20 years. She will be doing interior and looks to be great from actual TR I've seen and many Air Craft [her primary source of income] and older/custom cars.

She is in Santa Rosa area.

PM me if you need more info.

Mike Franzini in San Rafael. He upholstered some carseats for me and was recommended by a friend of mine who had his 430 interior done by Mike in suede.

Sid's Custom Upholstery in Mountain View. They rebuilt a Recaro interior in custom fabric blend that has held up to over 10 years of sun and race tracks, and still looks good today. Their prices are extremely competitive and usually far lower than comparable shops.

I have to chime in with a slight note of dissent here. I've done a headliner or two strictly as an amateur, but wanted a professional job this time. We had ABC do the headliner of my Alfa sedan with VW Jetta material. This stuff comes with a very thin layer of foam backing. While I have not had any sagging in the few years since it was done, the tucking of edges was not very consistent and the material does not consistently hug all the shapes of the headliner backing around the sun visors or overhead grab handles.

We did not go back because we had removed the headliner ourselves, and took our time putting it back in. It was a while. Even after it was in, I had hoped that heat from the sun and time would even things out a bit. No luck. At some point in the near future I am going to have to redo the headliner, because it drives me batty to see the uneven edges and gaps.
