    More interesting info, thanks!

This also relates to my question about what happened to 250TR engine fitted in the Furia-Ferrari, as Landi (driver of the Ferrari-Corvette) owned 290MM #0606 which seems to have lent it's (250TR) engine to ther Furia-Ferrari. So possibly the Ferrari-Corvette was made out of the 290MM.

I couldn't see in the text any refence to what engine was in the Ferrari-Corvette, but looking at the result sheets for the flying kilometer test I see it is listed as 4500cc which certainly rules out the 250TR engine. 4500 = 275ci. Is there a Corvette engine of this capacity or is it a Corvette/Ferrari based car with a Ferrari 375 engine?

O Festival de Recordes da Marginal Pinheiros, 14.11.70

    1º. Camilo Christófaro - Chevrolet Corvette 5.300 cc 236,727 km/h (=147mph)
    2º. Alcides Diniz - Lamborghini Miura 3.929 cc - 224,413 km/h
    3º. Luis Pereira Bueno - Ford Galaxie 7.000 cc - 198,192 km/h
    4º. Eduardo Celidônio - Snob´s Corvair 2.600 cc - 194,886 km/h
    5º. Luis Landi - Ferrari Corvette 4.500 cc - 192,978 km/h

For a flying kilometer none of them are especially quick, although the text tells us that the Miura couldn't get fifth gear which explains it's surprisingly low top speed. They had 1 km to accelerate, 1 to be timed, and 1 to slow down. Average of runs in each direction.

I have found a result for presumably this same car in 1959:

    Jornada Sudam, Maio 1957
    Interlagos

    Mecanica Nacional

    1. Ciro Cayres, Maserati
    2. Camillo Christofaro, Ferrari Corvette
    3. Rafael Gargiulo, Ford

Hopefully someone on this site has more info about this car....

Now I have found that there may have been (at least) two Ferrari-Corvettes in Brazil at the time:

    [Author ]
    Rémi Paolozzi
    [ Publication date ]
    January 26, 2006

''The Ferrari-Corvette was a single seater and not related to Fritz D'Orey began racing with a Porsche Spyder but his career really started off in 1958, when he was only twenty. He had just bought the ex-Chico Landi’s Ferrari 375 F1 from Celso Lara Barberis. The peculiarity of this car was its… Corvette V8 engine (sacrilege!). This car was typically built for the Mecanica Continental Championship, a kind of series for single-seaters with big American engines. When European drivers began to come to South America to take part in the Temporada races of Argentina, they used to sell their cars to local drivers in order to make some money. These locals had neither the expertise nor the money to maintain Ferrari or Maserati engines. Indeed, it was easier to service with a single-seater chassis than a racing engine. That is why the sophisticated engines were replaced by cheaper and more reliable American V8s. So, from the thirties to the fifties, Brazilian racetracks were full of such exotic cars.''

I suppose it's possible that one car was made from the other, but it would be great to hear from someone who knows the stories of these cars: #0606, #0726, #0738, Ferrari-Corvette sports, Ferrari-Corvette monoposto, Furia-Ferrari which then became Furia-Chevrolet (via Furia-Chrysler?), and possibly several others owned by Landi & Christofaro which might be mixed in with it all.

    Some more info on 0640MD/TR:

    http://www.bonhams.com/images/LeesCol1.pdf

There were many Corvette-spec small block Chevy engines. The 283 cubic inch one was the smallest. The 327 cubic inch one was more common.

As promissed before I enclose my database on 375 F1 #5.

I have been researching the 375F1 and Indycar racers for a while now.

Most of the data I collected from www.luik.com.br beautifull site for Brasilian (South American) ancient races and pictures!

Can anybody fill in its detailed ownerhistory after its last race in 1966?

    Where is this car now?

    Best wishes,

    Peter

Sorry! but there are some little mistakes in your data base. The results of 1951 are probably false. At Monza 375-5 is clearly a new car.
