A couple of years back I had replaced all of my fuel lines. ...except this one! The strong smell of fuel was my first warning. I though it was just the carbs running rich. In the office parking lot, I noticed a small puddle and a visible trail left from the leaking fuel. I still can't believe how lucky I was considering I drove home under these conditions. When I put the carbs back on the 308 GT4 I changed all the cloth-covered fuel lines. They were all totally crusty. I've always said that the one newspaper headline that is never surprising, but never gets old to readers: "Ferrari engulfed in flames"
Should you not clean your nails before photographing? Seriously, a well timed warning methinks, winter coming on here, fuel lines at the top of the 'to do' list
I was just checking out a georgeous 308 this weekend, and my buddy was telling me how he just replaced a bunch of fuel lines. I went straight to this hose -maybe because I was on that side of the car when he opened the engine cover-. Anyway, it was one of the most aged rock hard fuel line I've seen seen. I told him DON'T drive this baby until you get this under control. Glad you caught it and posted this. Another hose to be careful of is the large gas filler hose. I changed a bunch of hoses, and this one felt ok, so I didn't. A few years later, I was putting gas in, and noticed a puddle forming. This hose failed without warning. Being thorough is good! Also, change out those short little vent lines that go from the tank to the vapor separator.
Return line to the RH tank on a carb car...It's a smaller diameter than the primary fuel lines btween carbs, IIRC, but should be changed as the others...nice save! Roger the filler coupling as well, easy to see, if you pull the LH inner fender!
