I've decided to eliminate all the Ferrari identification from my 308 I've removed all the badges, emblems, and visible interior / exterior insignia already. The only thing remaining is the wheel center caps. I'm running the stock 390 TRX wheels, and I wish to keep them on the car but lose the "prancing horse" center caps. Before I go to the trouble of having a set of "blank" caps made, I thought I would ask if anyone knows of any after-market caps that fit the stock wheels? Or, does anyone have a set of beat-up OEM caps they would be willing to sell which I can modify? My OEM caps in excellent condition, so I don't want to alter (ruin) them. Thanks

Some of my badging is missing or damaged already... And, rather than waste a lot of time and money trying to find OEM replacements (have you ever seen an OEM "GTSi" badge for sale --- ANYWHERE???), I thought I'd see how the car looks with nothing. I don't like the way it looks with some of the stuff there --- and some of it not. Nothing sinister (666) going on here, folks ---- relax
And, shame on all of you for making me have to do a follow up post I wanted to milk the "666" classification for a while !!!
You're kidding right? How much time and money is it going to take to "blank out" your car? How much is the paint work going to cost? Again, are you kidding? You can buy a GTSi badge easily.... It seems as if you want our opinions since you posted it on here so I'll give you mine: This is the most ill-conceived idea for a 308 I think I have ever seen on here. Do yourself a favor and disregard this idea and simply go buy the missing badges and forget about all of this.
Although I have no intention of debadging my 308, I'm going to go out on a limb here and agree with Finnerty's concept. I have yet to see the car design whose aesthetics are improved by its badging. Who cares if someone thinks it is a kit car, my desire to purchase my 308 was an approval of its design, performance, and history; not a desire to drive something with the Ferrari badge affixed. I also think it a common part of a proud owner to personalize their own car, and while I wouldn't encourage someone to cut up a perfectly good car, badges are usually easily reapplied. --Woody
Weirdly enough - I saw a blanked out 328 the other day. I'm not sure it was so because it was a fresh paint job or what, but the whole thing looked weird. The car looked fantastic other wise. Interesting on the blanking out ... for me the emblems are a part of the "whole" experience - probably not the only one here.
No, you're not. I knew dude once that would take all the badges off of every car he bought. Said he just hated them on cars. To me, it made them look weird. Couldn't conceive of every doing it to a Ferrari, or any classic car. Maybe a Civic.....maybe.
I have a set of Aftermarket ones that cam with my Superformance 16" wheels I'd part with. They are in like new condition. Will take me awhile to get them off the car as I only see my car on weekends, if you are interested.
Hm, that project leaves a whole lot of holes and a nice indentation on the nose. The repair of all this will cost you a bundle. I don't quite see the point, but that's just my opinion.
you can drill the plastic caps from the back side and remove the horsie's from the wheel center caps. before we had them in sets of 4 at a great price from Ricambi, i would reuse my caps and just replace the centers with new one. use a bit of clue to help hold them in, but the canters actually will snap back into place. still have to say i dont like the idea of no badges, but its your car, and i respect your right to be different.
To me the design of the badges themselves are beautiful, and only add to the intriguing overall impact of the 308. The Ferrari script on the rear deck, the "308 GTB" badge and the prancing horse are all great designs. To remove them is to rob the car of part of Enzo's overall vision. Badge delete is something that the German car crowd likes to do (and likewise some of the Japanese car crowd follows suit). Porsche even offers badge delete as an option; I'll guess that other German makers might, also. Some do it because of aesthetics; I've heard that some do it in Europe for theft/security reasons -- they don't want to advertise that they have the high performance model, hence removing all traces of it. But I've only been told this second-hand, so who knows. In the States, it seems people do it for aesthetic reasons, or to be Autobahn cool, just like putting fake German license plates on their front bumpers . . . With regards to Italian cars, I used to hear stories of people in Italy pulling the 2.5 or 2.4 or 3.0 badges off of their cars and replaced them with 2.0 or smaller badges . . . we know why they did that! (This was back in the 70s and early 80s -- doubt one could get away with that today!) Again, all second-hand information . . . . But seriously, if a guy wants to remove the badges from his 308, who cares? Other people are removing side markers and bumpers and all kinds of other little bits. Personally, I dig the big bumpers, side markers, and exhaust diapers; They are in way period cool, as well as being very functional (and IMHO there is always an inherent beauty in purpose).
My first car was a BMW 5 series which had this option (no badges). But that was probably because it was a lowly four cilinder instead of a six and the original owner was probably a bit embarrased about it!
To clear up some speculation, I'll elaborate a bit on my reasons... 1) My side marker lights, and Pininfarina badge were long ago deleted by the previous owner --- Frankly, the car looks better without them, to me. 2) The nose badge, rear valance badges ("cavallino", "308" and "GTSi"), and deck badge ("Ferrari") will be removed, but not permanently ---- the holes will be sealed with plugs. 3) My car is black, so, aside from the recess for the nose badge, it will be difficult to see the plugged holes at a glance. 4) I'm going to try this out for a while, and if I like it, I MAY decide to make it permanent ----- I have some minor body work that needs to be done in these areas any way ----- so the extra "cost" to blank the holes will be zero. 5) This is a temporary solution to mitigate against theft and vandalism. I've had the 308 for about 12 years now, and in that time, the "cavallino" badge has been stolen twice, the "308" and "GTSi" badges once each, the wheel center caps (all 4) once, and an attempt to take the "Ferrari" deck badge left it damaged and a few scratches in the deck lid. I'm bloody sick of this BS! So, if the badges aren't on the car, no one can steal them.......right?!
Plus... I simply don't care that much about the badges like most folks do. Aside from the nose badge and the deck lid script, the badges on the 308 are cheap-o, plastic pieces ---- nothing special ---- which is why the idea of having to spend $100 for a used "GTSi" badge doesn't hold much appeal for me. Especially if it is going to continue to get ripped off... Maybe I'll just tape a 100-dollar bill to the back of the car?? --- that way the crackheads can cut out their middle men
Ah, I understand a bit better now. This makes sense. Go for it. If I had my 328 out that much and kept having people tring to take the badging off I might do the same.
