Gauge cover glare onto the windshield really obscures vision of the road ahead...just to eliminate that would be a big plus. But the whole dash reflects. I've tried black cloths but they don't stay in place and I don't want to use something which leaves a sticky residue. I've seen pictures of carpet to cover the dash but it looks heavy.

    Just what does work?

If you dont use a mat on the dash then you have to put up with it. If you use a cleaner that leaves no shine and the dash looks dead then the glare will less but then it looks like crap. The GTO and F40 got the alacantara (sp?) for that reason.

Staying out of the car with ArmorAll helps a lot. the original dash isn't that shiny at all.

My car has a dash cover made for it. There are tons of companies that make them....cheap. Not only does it get rid of the glare but it protects the dash from the sun... :)

Although not original I'm going to redo the binical on my 308 with the matt material as used on the race cars. The name of the material escapes me at this time but is very good for eliminating reflection and glare.

Google Dashmat. They are relatively inexpensive and the fit is poorbut it works, almost no glare.

I cut a piece of black felt to cover the instrument cluster. It's held down by three velcro dots.
Works great. And easy to remove for cleaning.

I have one. It does work. It is ugly.

So mostly I just deal with the glare...

Love it - excellent "anti-glare" tactic :) I think I'll grab a piece of alcantara and follow your lead. After I park the car, I use my Berlinetta Shade for total protection.

    Thanks Clyde,

Probably the single thing I hated most about my Mondial. I just stopped applying any shiny preservatives and let dust collect on the dash. The dash layout is not one of Ferrari's finest ergonomic achievements given the glare and my inability to read the top row of instrument lights from my driving position.

I wear a pair of polarized sunglasses when I drive her and they work perfect! I recommend them. Remember, must be polarized; all the glare disappears.

    Cheers

Recently, I installed a Dashmat Signature Series cover.

Reasonably priced, about $60 w/shipping, very good fit, precut holes are decently aligned with plastic dash outlets.

Keeps that hot-as-hell TX sun off the dash and eliminates the glare...a very great safety and driveability improvement.

Downside: I broke the studs off both banana-shaped vents and broke one of them in half in removing them to install the pad, did manage a decent repair and refinish job on the broken one.

I now find that replacement vents fall under the category of "parts unobtanium". :(

My instrument binnacle ONLY has been redone in alcantara, or given the vintage maybe even black suede......that knocks out most of it ....you just get used to seeing your three dash vents in the glass over time!! :D :D :D

Just checked the web sites for Dashmat Signature Series and they all say 'not available' with no email listed. Sounds like a 'belly up' company. Dang. Well, here goes black felt and 3 velcro pads.

On some older thread I have pics.
I'll see if I can take a couple of others.
It's really not terribly visible and is no annoyance. But for looking straight ahead during driving, it's great.
I have left the rest of the dash uncovered so on a bright sunny day I'll see the 3 circular vents reflecting in the windshield.
But that's not a significant distraction. I only use Leatherique & pristine clean on the dash - never armorall.

I used 3M velcro dots bought at stamples. like 1/2" diameter.
the sticky side is on the cluster, the velcro hooks grip the felt.
since it's 3m, they peel off the leather/vinyl of the cluster whenever needed and leave no marks.
It's plain black felt found at any fabric store. I think mine came from "Michaels", but Wal*mart carries it too.

Here is one from an f-chatter sent to me when I was interested in his car. Don't remember his name. I also don't know anything about the dash cover.

I have a dashmat and it solves the glare problem. I just have the vents hold it in place(no velcro), it's a cheap and simple solution. Easy to remove for cars shows etc. I don't even notice it when I'm driving.

I bought mine straight off the Dashmat website early this year.
