LOL! He might have been a 'loverly' man but obviously he was about as successful at teaching you English as his son has been in politics; i.e., he did his best but it just wasn't enough!

I do not suggest this...but appears it was already started in 1978!!

On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch
mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari
275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer,
drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris early in
the morning . The film was limited for technical reasons to
10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine , through the
Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a
    permit.

The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes,
reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage
reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real
pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way
    streets.

Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch
was arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the
driver, and the film went underground. If you haven't
seen this before it is a classic, if you have seen it I
apologize, but it's still a classic. Turn on your
    sound and enjoy.

The ending tugs at my "heart" the re-union with him and his "Elf" !!

wow Roy, I'm surprised you just found this classic film. it IS awesome footage! from what I understand there was someone with a radio near the Louvre (the narrow arch underpass) to radio him if there were people or cars there when he went blasting though. it wasn't until later that he found out this person's radio wasn't working!

I've seen that video before, but it's still really good. I don't think I'd ever attempt somthing crazy like that though.

It is all faked. The car was a MB and the soundtrack added. The film was also sped up in places.

The engine sound gives it away as a fake. Still, Rendezvous is one of my favorite films to show to friends.

There is a rumor that the car was actually a Mercedes 6.9 with the soundtrack dubbed on? still a great film though.

Gentleman, just take a close listen to the shift points. There is no way it could be a Mercedes 6.9, even in European 4 speed form, as you can clearly here that this was a 5 speed. The same holds true for a 275 GTB, either a 2 cam or 4 cam. The shift points are way different. If I were a betting man, I would put strong money down on a 250 LM, or similar comp car. Years ago, when I drove 2 different LM's for periods of time, the engine sounded this way, with similar shift points (not knowing what gearing was in the transaxle).
    With best regards,
    Gary Bobileff

Yes, in just the short time this thread has been up on two sites I am hearing everything, do not know if it is real or fake or what car or soundtrack..but it is fun to watch...

Not being the expert as gary...I will go with Gary's guess as the most correct at this point...

I am not sure what car they used for the soundtrack, but they used a MB to film it.

It was a camera mounted on a mercedes S class and the soundtrack was from a GTO. There are two points in the movie where you can hear an error in the "sound track" revs. He had a friend that had the GTO that he used for the audio.

He was arrested the first time the film was publicly run

This video is one that, on discovery, makes you want to share it with everyone!

Here's my post in 2006 in this very forum when I discovered it! :)

Certainly doesnt look like 140mph though. Personally I thought the gears were dubbed.

I would love to see some documentation that proves any of that. All you say has been suggested but in my research has not been validated. On a separate note: So what? Still a fun film.

A classic, of course, and one whose details are indeed hotly contested as evidenced even in this thread.

Another short thrillride vid I highly recommend is "Climb Dance"... it's a little run up Pike's Peak by Ari Vatanen:
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3368948773832597270
That link should work, but google "climb dance" if it doesn't.

    Well worth a look!
