I'm sure Gordan Murray will issue a press statement to EVO or Auto Motor Und Sport saying that in 1992 he had studied how Ferraris caught fire and burned to the ground, and he engineered the McLaren F1 to incinerate MUCH more efficiently and effectively. Not only that, he's kind of disappointed that the industry hasn't developed a faster-burning car since his over 12 years ago.

No detais here other than what has been presented in that article unfortunately. I have some good F1-related sources, but none in this specific case. The owner is a hedge fund guy, so some other folks here must surely know him. I think in the end it will be determined it was some sort of mechanical failure, and these cars do burn quick.

As for repairing the car, surely McLaren have the ability to do so and it sounds like there is insurance money there to cover the repairs if that's the route that is chosen. If they do, this will be the second time McLaren have put this car back together as its previous owner, Elon Musk, experienced a fairly heavy crash in the car back in March of 2000.

Maybe the owner will replace it with a Toyota Yaris, I'll bet those don't catch on fire after left in the garage fo 6 months.
