In '97 Cliff Ebben and Laird Cleaver brought 250 GT SWB Berlinetta 3327GT to UK to race at amongst others, the Silverstone Historic Festival.

I've never heard a 250SWB sound quite like it, before or since....

It was superbly driven and very, very hot (maybe the odd trick cam here or there!)

I remember it being LHD, silver and suitably noisy

Does anyone have any photos of the car or know of its current whereabouts?

I'm afraid I don't know of the car in question or the history behind it, but this silver 250 SWB was at Silverstone a couple of months back- being driven very well in the wet, and certainly sounded fantastic. I hope it helps in the quest for your answers! (apologies for the poor camera 'phone pictures)

I remember that SWB vividly as well. It was very quick. In fact I remember it entered in a race with more modern Ferraris, including one or two F40s. It sure gave them a good run for their money! Rumours were that it had considerably more than 300 BHP.

Here are two pictures I took at Silverstone in 1997.

Later it was owned by Mexican Nicolas Zapata and he entered it in the Historic Challenge. After that I think it was auctioned but can't remember which one.

    Best, Peter

Yup, a true Hotrod ! I remember the car as being indecently fast, almost unfeasably so, although that had a lot to do with the steering wheel nut.

motor and brakes to period or not?
often wondered why they ran wires on the 250 cars, when with the jags they just break spokes all the time, must be the jags torque.

Barchetta.cc suggests it ran a 250GTE motor in the mid nineties?

    http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/3327GT.250GT.htm

"put a GTE block from 4599GT in it brought up to competition SWB specs (+) with electronic ignition, custom cams, a Ferrari F1 clutch, and many other modifications"

Whichever, it blew off a lot of far faster and more modern tipo's and for someone who'd not driven Silverstone before, Cliff Ebben had his foot to the floor!

Thanks for the photos Peter - Hot rod indeed!!

Before they started to use alloy wheels at Jaguar, I suppose that they used Dunlop wires, and not Borrani's like Ferrari. Also, the Jaguar and Ferrari wheels are spoked/laced differently.

true,I run triple lace and the feeling is that they break more then 2 spoke.
I've got a set of ex Bob Jane Dunlop alloys, but don't want to convert my car from spline.

Is there any new info on this car? I was just on the phone with Chuck Dietrich's widow, and she was wondering. Chuck was on the driver roster with Carl Haas and Charlie Hayes for this car's first race in Sebring, and also raced the car in a number of subsequent races in the early 60's. Chuck was quite a good racer: after being a "works" FJ driver for Elva and early US campaigner of their cars, he ran a VW dealership and competed in the SCCA, mainly open wheel FB, FA and Atlantic cars over the years with some notable national success.

Thank you, Mr Massini. My dad owned the car from 63-80. I remember sitting the driver seat as a child, just because, and riding with him a few times. I wonder how the fuel filler looks now. I think my dad modified it for the '64 Daytona Continental (driven by Dietrich and I think "Doc" Wyllie) to improve refueling speed, and it always looked a bit elevated. But I could be wrong, as it was the only comp SWB I was familiar with. Great to see the car again, thank you.

Cliff Ebben is a great driver. I've seen him at Road America, driving a GT Mustang and winning the series. He is just a little unassuming guy, but incredibly talented. Did he drive Rollie Stephensen's Cobra, or other famous stuff?

Noticed the car had a Wisconsin license plate on it in the 1997 Silverstone picture. That must have confused them in the OK.
