You may have noticed that at full throttle and below 3,000 rpm the car is not that strong, around 3,200 rpm it gets louder and more powerful. I don't like this lack of linear power delivery between 3,000 rpm and 3,500 rpm.

So, I removed the rear lower grills (4 hex bolts each grill), pulled the hose from the exhaust vacuum valve at each side, put a bolt on each hose and zip tie them so they don't hit anything around.

Test drove the car, power is now linear across the entire RPM range. The biggest improvement is take off from a stop, much stronger, it actually started to chirp the tires, something it never did. The downside is that it becomes louder, but not excessively loud.

The whole process takes 15 minutes, and it's an easy DIY (even a caveman can do it).

You should probably cap the valves' stems too, so no dirt gets in there. You never know, in the future you may want (or need) to hook the valves back up. A vacuum line cap works well.

Yes I have done that to all my cars. 430's it works as well and 360's. Make the car sound much better. Hell I even did it to my Bentley :)

It can be done on 360 and 430's with removing anything as well. Takes two minutes

correct. To me, the scud seems much louder than the F430 once this mod is completed.

I did this on my CS and loved the sound. Does it also take away some back pressure so there's a slight power loss down low?

Just did it, sorry no pictures. Remove small triangular mesh screens, one on each side, to get access to hose. I can't tell if there is more power, much louder, best part is the burble on downshifts. Another realization that Ferrari made this car almost perfect in stock form, the new sound is very annoying for everyday driving.

There is definitely more power below 3,000 rpm with this mod. I have yet to take pictures.

I'm testing against the timer again this weekend. Without this mod, the 60 feet times were in the 1.9 secs range in two runs, there was a high 1.8 secs and a low 2.0 secs in the other two runs (average 1.9 secs). During take off and due to the lack of Launch control, the Scuderia runs at low RPMs in 1st gear.

Verification of the extra power is very easy. With the valves connected hit full gas at 2,500 rpm in 4th, 5th or 6th gear, you will notice sudden additional power around 3,200 rpm. Repeat the test with the valves disconnected, and the sudden jump in power is not present anymore (because the car is producing more power at low RPMs).

But I thought the valves in the exhaust were suppose to hold the pressure in low RPM to improve low end torque. By opening the exhaust system, that would have the opposite effect as you have mentioned above! Are you sure???

yup, some people like it some folks don't. but the reason Ferrari did it is not to appease the milder folks, it is to meet noise regulations.

no, it is strictly for noise regulations.

backpressure to improve torque is somewhat of a myth. in the old days it helped because of non computerized ignition and fuel systems. so as snopes would say, true but outdated. think about it: an engine is an air pump. restricting flow can only hurt performance.

Positive. Tested on the same uphill stretch of road. A stock U.S. Scuderia has a decent take-off, with this mod take-off is wilder, to the point that you need to start modulating the gas. Try it, the mod actually takes 5 minutes, as you don't need to reinstall the grills if you just want to test it.

The test is full gas from 2,500 rpm in either 4th/5th/6th gear, preferably 5th/6th.

When you say its louder, does it give it drone? My dad has a F430 and I'm going to see if he'll do this, but he doesn't like a lot of drone...

Can you tell me how to do it on my CS? And this may be a dumb question, but is it something present on aftermarket exhaust systems as well? I have a Tubi GTC.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this "mod" just causing the exhaust valves to be permanently open? If they were going to open at high rpm anyway, wouldn't you violate noise regulations if you were to shift late? There was something very similar discussed in the 599 section, from what I recall, there was similar mention of power loss because the car was very specifically tuned to operate at peak efficiency with the amount of back pressure present when the valvues were closed at low rpm. Hence any changes in back pressure would only cause a loss of power.

I'm completely mechnically uninclined, so I'm just stating what others have said, but you seem to know what you're talking about so I'd like to hear your opinion on this matter. I'd actually really like to do this mod myself since I like loud exhausts.

The CS sounds terrible with the valves permanently open, somewhere between a tractor and a civic with a 5inch exhaust on it. Get someone else to drive your car when you do this and listen from outside, awful. You just pull off the two vacumn hoses you can see when you open the engine cover.
