I want to upgrade my thermostat & cooling with this device. Anybody can provide me where I can buy it ? Thanks in advance. Olivier Image Unavailable, Please Login
This a simple FIAT Thermostat, the same was also used in the 4 and 5l Countach and the Jalpa. Unfortunately I don't have the FIAT reference in mind, number is 9.10.331.00
Raymond, is this number the Lambo reference for the casing itself or the complete part including the thermostat ? if you can find the FIAT reference, my wallet will own you a favor !!! Olivier
I don't remember if we had this discussion on VLG or if I had it privately with someone but here's what I found out when I started looking at doing this. I have the earlier system pictured here: http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partTable.asp?M=2&Mo=653&A=1&B=37752&S= This is the later system: #7 http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partTable.asp?M=2&Mo=653&A=1&B=37755&S= This is on Ebay so it looks like a 67-77 Fiat 124 spider: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1977-67-77-FIAT-124-SPYDER-SPORT-WORKING-THERMOSTAT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a12Q7c66Q3a2Q7c39Q3a1Q7c72Q3a1205Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem4398754cdfQQitemZ290320633055QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Is this what you're trying to do? I found a thermostat from a 3500 Maserati that was very similar for about $70. It looked like it might be able to be adapted. Length between the pipe and the radiaor is the issue since there's not a lot of room between the existing pipe and the radiaitor. You need some hose for flexibility or things will crack. I'll bet there are several types of these out there. I don't know if the temperature calibration is correct enough though. These are the guys that had it: http://stores.shop.ebay.com/OVRST2-AUTO-PARTS__W0QQ_sidZ191625243?_nkw=thermostat&LH_TitleDesc=1 Bob S.
In fact, is that thermostat casing wasn't fitted standard OEM on later Espada S3 ??? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Interesting Espada in the paddock of the Swedish GP at Anderstorp in 1973. (Photo from Hasse Larsson). Image Unavailable, Please Login
There was an original blk/white photo of this car for sale on ebay some while ago. I think the F-Chat member italiancars who has an Iso Lele Marlboro #184 maybe can give us some input on this car?
I don't have the original one-negative (that is also a copy)... Here is the pic, it was shoot at Formula 1 Grand Prix of France in the paddock ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ha, have the VIN of this car: 7858 1970 ~ Red White Philip Morris SA in 1972, registred VD11395 finally also pictures...
You wake up early Raymond...did you found that FIAT thermostat reference ? I got the price from Lambo for it (S3 Espada OEM) and just for a Thermostat I believe it expensive : 123 . Should be half of that at FIAT ?
After getting no response from the VLG forum I thought I'd ask you guys. We're doing a clutch job on my 1968 SI Espada and it looks like the flywheel needs attention. Does anyone know what the dimensional specs are for resurfacing a series I flywheel? Thanks.
Bod, Thanks God to...Raymond, he provides us the correct number for that original FIAT 124 Spider thermostat #910331 used as well as in 5000S and Jalpa. Your mind is not that altered yet !!! Thanks to Martin, here is a pic of it, it will be in my hands next week and I will publish modification on my GTS later. Since, one of my LCB members owning & driving an Espada S3 confirmed me he never overheats downtown, trafficjam as well as at high speed in summer, his engine stays cool around 80° C to 90° C. Yes, Savara, most of the Lambo Thermostats were produced by Savara, I had one in stock but sold it when I sold the Jalpa in 2006.
Hi Daryl, I think I'd contact Jack on VLG directly as he'd know. Also, Gary Bobileff who is on this site from time to time will certainly know. But I think that a really decent clutch rebuilding company will be able to adequately judge this. They can probably rebuild the clutch disc and pressure plate as well as balance everything. Bob S.
Well good to have that number. I'm just not clear which car you have and whether you're just replacing the same thermostat or if you have the older style one that's inside the coolant tube? From what I've heard the later radiators had changes made to them to alter the flow inside of the radiator and this helped to make them more efficient. A modern set of fans will surely help in slow traffic. I also think that fans mounted on the backside with a shroud that has the rubber blow through flaps probably would do a lot better than the front mounted ones. I'm not convinced that a simple thermostat change is going to help unless your current one is deffective. My interest in the later style thermnostat is to allow for engine block recirculation while the engine warms up, As far as I can see with the early design cooling system you have to put the heater valve open to allow for any recirculation within the block before the thermostat opens. This is not a popular idea in mid summer ... I think this is probably the part you're looking for? http://www.international-auto.com/index.cfm?fa=p&pid=2474&posid=853103
Gents : I just finalized my deal and this car is now mine and on its way to Gary Bobileff shortly and then on to its new home just outside of Toronto. If anyone has info on this car in addition to what has been supplied would be welcome. Warm regards Gary
Hey Gary, that is good news, glad you bought the car after all. Welcome to Espada and classic Lambo ownership. Wish you years of driving and pleasure. Best. Philippe Muratori S2 7987 www.lamborghinimiura.com

a newbie question : was the ESPADA the blueprint for the early 70's american muscle cars ? or why does it look so different than the other 60's Lambos and similar to ...let's say Charger etc. ? what happened back then ? and I'm still amazed bu the fact of a ESPADA being more expensive than a Miura back then
Bob, this simple thermostat is making a difference, due to its recirculation in the engine while still water cold OR while warm it opens to radiator. If I mis-explain, have a look on the chart at Eurospares, you will notice the different head cap on the water pump with a dual access instead of a single one on previous model. So this modifications requires one dual cap on water pump or a transformation with a "Y" hose in addition to that thermostat. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Olivier Your car is like mine, late production model, they have a different radiator and hose arrangement to the earlier cars,I have changed the hoses and the thermostate housing is now in a different position,I believe the bottom hose is no longer available? I tried a late Espada bottom hose but it did not fit. The other problem with the late Jarama with power steering is the steering ball joints which are fixed to the tie rod as a complete unit,I don.t think these are available? Stephen Keen
