Too soon old

"My 4 post lift has a couple of sliding cross members that are designed for the purpose of jacking the car when it is on the lift. I use bottle jacks supplemented by stacked boards for safety when a wheel is off. The standard issue 328 scissor jack can also be used. The heavy cross members can be slid from front to back so either end can be raised. This is the arrangement I use when I do my timing belts.

Works well. Just make sure you don't jack it into the ceiling..... "

Works the same on my lift..........lift is rated at 7000#s.

The only time you will be "too old" is when you can't drive a standard gearbox anymore. At that point, I'll get some guys from the neighborhood to drive me around. You are never to old to smile.

That's my lift, yes. Best tool I have gotten for the car so far! It made me nervious too until recently when it was up and we had that 4.5 EQ. Not a problem. I also tugged at it when I first got it and it felt very stable. Besides, the lift is almost as heavy as the car (LOL!). I just make sure to drop it to the "lock" position before working on the car.

 

Bob, you can just get a 2-post and a 4-post - best of both worlds. Oh, and a 18 foot ceiling helps too.....

18' ceilings is a great idea, I was just thinking of a "new" shop...... Maybe that's the way to go, not sure I could go for two lifts, but, one never knows.........
