Yeah you should be able to see it stamped on the can.
Our US spec cars have an air injection system during warm-up, but it makes more of a growling sound than a whistling sound. I don't think this would be the cause of your whistle (unless a valve wasn't working properly in the air injection plumbing) but it might be worth noting if the whistle disappears after the car is fully warmed up.
Thanks, there is a stamp on the can. Of course, it's on the backside that I can't see. Managed to lay a piece of paper against it and rub with some chalk. Can't make it all out. But has the word " Maranella" or "Maranello" on it. Above that is something else I can't read... Any ideas? Lou
Appreciate that info. It does, however, make the sound even when fully warmed up and running. Going to see if I can get some time away from the wife and kids today and see if I can't find it. Thanks again, Lou
Check all of the vacuum lines. You may have a line that is leaking or has popped off one of the solenoids. Best thing to do is start the car and listen for where the whistling is coming from.
Well, drove today and no whistle. So who knows. May take a few drives before I figure out all the noises. Anyone know what the exhaust is? Believe is says Maranello on it. I can't read what's above that. Sounds nice to me, although I don't have anything to compare it to......... Also, figured out my speedo error. Doesn't go to 0 when not moving. Stays at 10. Not sure where the ODO gets it's info. Does my car actually have less miles on it than the ODO says? Lou
There's a pin on the speedo face that keeps the needle from dropping below 10MPH. As long as the needle doesn't start moving until you get above that speed, you're probably OK. Taking a random road test of a 348, the speedometer error chart shows an indicated 30, actual 29; indicated 60, actual 57.... so the speedo reads a little bit fast. Both the speedo and the odo are electronically operated, off a signal from the gearbox. Sending units are known to fail. It would be easy enough to test it on the freeway to confirm how it's reading on your own car. The idea of paying $6500 for an exhaust blows my mind.
Maybe tomorrow I'll take a GPS with me to compare speeds. Didn't notice the peg at 10mph. I'm not sure he payed that....although he says he did. Everything else he said checked out, so who knows. Would like to know what it is. I think it might be an X - OST. Unfortuneatly the stamp is on the rearward facing part of the exhaust....so I can't see it. Even with a mirror. Had to use some paper and chalk to get the Marranello name off it.....Lou
Congrats and welcome to the Brotherhood and the neighborhood since I am only down the freeway in PV. No we don't really rotate our tires since thestock wheels only go on one way. You're supposed to have the tires remounted unless you have unidirectionals AND assymetricals. I have 355 wheels with Pirelli Assymetricals on front and Direczionales on back (or is it vice versa?), so no rotating there. I'm just gonna burn them up and then replace with something else. I will use a higher profile in front though.
You will be going to visit the garage to check up on her for a VERY long time. Mine was delivered almost one year ago and it still make the heart race - even visiting her when she is ill ( Bad Alternator right now) - the for better or worse holds true. The drive it like you stole it statement is soooo very true - they love to rev and it is so much fun. Enjoy, Greg
You guys weren't kidding. It loves to go fast. I'm seeing quite a few tickets in my future! Loving every minute of it!!! Thanks for all the support, Lou Image Unavailable, Please Login
yup, you'll have to train yourself to say, the car looks just as sexy going the speed limit as it does over it...
Welcome to the Brotherhood. Owning the car alone is a great thing, but being a member of the brotherhood is awesome too. Your gonna love these guys. Next time you take the car out, redline 2nd, and 3rd, then look at that grin in the mirror. There's only one other thing that will make you grin like that. Bee Jay
Congrats on the purchase. Car looks great. As a past owner of a 328 and a YELLOW 348, I can vouch for the fact that the 348 is NOT the "entry level Ferrari". Guys get SO defensive about their cars and are SO protective of the "masses" thinking less of the value or perception of their car than they do. Drive and own what you like and don't worry about anyone else's opinion. ;-) I will say this........the BEST sounding Ferrari I have ever heard in my life was a cat-less 348 with a Capristo Stage 3 exhaust on it. The car absolutely barked and screamed. I think you can find used for about $2500 or so. If you can get it, you won't be disappointed. Congrats!!
