Wow, Brian, lighten up a bit. Some diplomacy and collegiality goes a very long way even if there are vastly differing levels of sophistication and awareness. Everyone has to learn and this gent is obviously trying to learn (and being quite diplomatic in the process).....

Please excuse my little jest above....

I would venture that you're probably looking at an electronic issue of some kind here which is going to be quite difficult to diagnose without the factory information and diagnostic resources. A 355 F1 transaxle is vastly more complicated than say an old 308 (which probably wouldn't require highly specialized training and tools). Your friend probably should take it to the Ferrari dealer if you don't mind me saying....

With all due respect Cliff, he has intimated that he is taking money for this work by saying he is a customer. He is working on a car he has no knowledge of. Like Brian i have spent many hours fixing other people's screw ups on Fcars. He doesn't have even the basic tooling required to do so and is probably doing more harm than good. It's one thing working on your own car, but when you are doing something for proffit it's a whole different ball game.

There has been no charge to the customer for this problem for we have not touched the car. As to calling him a customer we work on his MB. I offered to get him info to his problem. I do understand it will have to go to the dealer. As I stated I am just trying to get him as much info for him.

Thank you for trying to help. I also think it could be just the speed sensor, because if i press the brake and the gas pedal and then insert the 1 gear, the car run... So, i think maybe i have a problem with the speed sensor that send a low value and the ECU cut the ignition to protect damage in the clutch (maybe diferent speed in gearbox sensor).
Anyway, i came here because i'm a recent Ferrari 355 F1 owner. I have a repair office for Italian bikes and i'm mechanical engineer, what i'm doing is my dream of life. I have a Ferrari and i can work and learn abaut it.
I don't repair cars, this is my own car.

Thank you, and when someone need some from Portugal please let me know...

    Screw you.

If every industry was as commited to policing itself as I am about mine, consumers would be far better off and if you read my response as impolite that is a reflection on your attitude, not mine.

If he is trying to learn there are ways to do that.

    What's your problem, man?

Hint: that's a retorical question - no need for further rudeness from you.

Just because you repair ferraris for a living and have a million posts doesn't mean you have a right to say rude things to those with less knowledge. Everyone's an equal citizen here if you hadn't noticed.

Everyone dial it back a notch please.

While we certainly encourage courteous behavior, it is also true that some people take advantage of the knowledge and courtesy provided here.

In this particular case, I'm still not completely convinced by the OP that he's just looking at a car as a favor for a good customer. The OP has referred to a 97 355 and a 99 355; O2 sensor codes as well as 355 clutch problems; over a period of a month (since 5/14). He's either got 2 or more cars or, if he misstated the year the first time, the same car for a month. Both situations are not consistent with the statement that he just "offered to get him info to his problem". It still smells like the OP is trying to fix one or more 355s as a business proposition and abusing his customer(s) and this board in the process. If that's the case, then Brian is spot on.

Yin- I have learned a lot from Brian. Nothing from his critiquers. So you know where my credibilty and GAS quotient lies.

Brian- Thanks for your help. The rest of you can kiss a fat lady's rear end.

i doubt i'll ever need to worry about a 355 clutch, but i always enjoy reading brian's comments. i suspect he has a large fan club, even if he no longer looks like nick nolte. jon s
