damn emeregency brake

down in destin for a conference, came out to the parking garage (which sure seems pretty level) and this is what i find. repairable or do i need a new bumper and grill? deck lid is fine, no damage.
the car rolled out of its spot into a concrete reatining beam.

Easy fix.

 

Dam that sucks... I had the same thing happen to my '68 camaro (but in front) from that point on I make sure it's also left in gear!

 

It's fiberglass. Seriously, it can be fixed if it is in 15 pieces, provided you have most of the big ones. I know of rear clips jettisoning off vintage race cars to shatter, only to be reassembled and ultimately look like new.

There is no way that a properly engaged handbrake on a 355 would TOTALLY disengage enough for the car to pick up enough speed on a "pretty level" surface to do that kind of damage. It just does not make sense. Was the car locked? How far was the car parked from the concrete barrier? No one reported the situation to the parking lot attendant? Verrrrrrry fishy.

 

ouch! +1 on the 355 parking brake, I don't trust it. I always carry a small wheel chock for steep inclines just to be safe. As for the bumper, no biggie. Still will cost some $$ to get fixed and painted, but 'tis only a flesh wound

and +1 on miltonian's point...seems like if it was engaged to start and garage is pretty flat, small chance it could roll that far with that much impact damage. Unless something flat out broke in there - did the cable come out somewhere?

 

i agree, i am certainly not happy with this, but it happened in a parking garage. cant watch it 24/7, but the car was locked. when i did walk up to the car the cops were already there, it was blocking traffic. who knows if someone leaned up on it and then got the hell out, but i'll never know though.

 

glad to hear the good news about the bumper, what about the grill though?

I feel very bad for you that this happened.

From now on I will make sure I leave mine in gear as a back-up to the parking brake.

 

Sounds like it's time for a CH grill...

 

Just take it to a shop that does fiberglass work and have them fix it.

Nothing big deal.
