308 Coolant Expansion Tank - wrong part ?

    Hi,

    So I needed to get a new Coolant Expansion tank for my 1985 US 308 QV. The lip which holds the tank cap on had broken, so the cap under pressure no longer held.

    I ordered from Ferrari UK a new expansion tank. The website is somewhat confusing as it lists the part number 116589 but says Use Alternative 120273. So I ordered 120273.

    Got the new part this past week. Just finished taking the old one out. Turns out the two parts are not the same.

    My original has, what I beleive is the EKG value (or it could be something else ?) mounted to the bottom. The studs for mounting on the new tank are in a completely different place.

    Second, my old tank, had a thermoswitch in it, whereas the new tank doesn't have a hole for the thermo switch ?

    I'm going to call Ferrari UK tommorow and tell them I'm sending the tank back.

    Any ideas on what to do ? anyone else have this problem ? Anyone know which part to order ? I've searched Ferrari UK for the right part (maybe a USA Only part ? something like that) and can't find....

    I've attached a picture showing the old part with the different studs and the hold for the thermo switch.

    Yes, the US version part is different, and, unfortunately, none of the online F SPC resources (RA, eurospares, etc.) presently have the 308/308i/308QV US version SPCs available. You need the one that mounts the AAV (item 30) on the bottom and has the fitting for the thermoswitch. I didn't save the corresponding PNs, but this illustration is from the 308QV US version SPC that used to be available at FerrariUK:

    If you do a search at www.allferrariparts.com on "coolant expansion tank" (after selecting "Parts List"), you'll get a list that indicates the 308QV US version part you need is 121647.

    most radiator shops can repair your tank. have you tried calling around?

    Have you considered rewelding your old tank, or welding on to the new tank the necessary fittings?
