I'm replacing the original injectors and seals in my '82 GTSi. I've found conflicting info on the correct replacement seals. The ones in my car are shown. Several sources list the much cheaper O-ring style seal as a direct replacement (Bosch part No. 3 430 210 606).

Anyone have the definitive answer on this?

    Thanks,

    Eric.

So far no seems to be able to find a cheap source for them.

Best price I found was Dennis McCanns.

If you really want to read more, there are several threads here on F-Chat (use Search) on this topic.

Just bought 8 seals from Dennis McCanns ~ 9.25/ea work perfect - I pushed the seals onto the new injectors and then put them into the cups and screwed the assy. back in. Nothing to it. Total time to replace the new injectors and seals less then 2 hrs. No special tools needed. I put some anti-seize on the cup threads as the new injectors were brass and it would make the next change out easier.....

That's where I bought mine a couple of months ago after first doing the typical internet price searching routine.

I've never seen in the flesh the "o" ring deal with these injectors, but I did first buy some seals which were described to be correct for the car from Autohauz in Arizona, only to find they were not what I needed upon their arrival.

I then bought the right ones from Superformance, and they were exactly what you need.

I've also bought these parts from Superformance, and they work.

    Cheers

Hello Friends. I too bought new injector rubbers from Superformance and I have new brass injectors which I bought from Ric Rainbolt, which he decided not to use on his TR. One would think that I am ready for an FI rebuild but alas, I am not. I have found that the original, old steel injectors have been in there SOOOO long that when I attempt to remove them, they destroy the metal rubber-seal-holders rather than unscrew. Therefore, I stopped all work before I damaged potentially NLA parts. Has anyone found a source for the screw-in metal injector-rubber retainers? If so, I can buy a set and do the rebuild job correctly. Until then, I am reduced to using liquid fuel injector cleaner.

I haven't done mine, either....but then again, I have a complete set of spare Intake Manifolds with old steel injectors and cups/races - if I break something, I have eight extras. I think a few days' soaking in PB Blaster (probably a solid week of daily application) might help. Verell's fuel Injector removal tool should pull the steel injector straight 'up' out of the hole easily, allowing you to insert a heavy-duty Allen Socket into the hole for max cranking leverage. Looks like the hardest part of the job is getting those steel cups/races to 'unstick' themselves from the AL intakes....total bummer. I'm going to experiment on my spare intakes starting this weekend and report back on the best technique on getting these out.

Thanks for the reply Michael. Perhaps if your assembly comes apart without damage you can sell spares in case I can't get mine out cleanly? I am aware of the tips you offer but I still appreciate them. -rick

When I replaced mine - I sprayed WD40 on the cups/threads let it soak over night then actually turned them cw (tight) first just a hair and then they backed right out. A little trick I learned from an old motor head. - Wayne

    Rick,

Can you explain this a bit better. I am not quite following so I do not understand what EXACTLY is being destroyed. This is really a pretty easy job even for a dummy like me.

The part in question is the metal carrier into which the rubber bit fits. Perhaps I just need to pull the injector from the carrier and use an ratchet-driven Allen key rather that trying to use the injector itself to unscrew the carrier. I have been told that pulling the injector often leaves bits of rubber in the intake runner so that too has spooked me. Perhaps I just need to get my bravery-factor up a bit and go for it. I'm not afraid of the process. Rather, up until last weekend, the Mondial was in my wife's garage bay and that's NOT a good thing. :p If I had disabled it for a few days (weeks) it would have been a VERY bad thing. :p Advice appreciated, BTW. -rick

If you are marring up the seal cup, I suspect the old seal has balooned and pushed the injector nearly out so the hex on the injector is NOT making good contact to extract the seal cup.

Just pull the injector (I used a claw-hammer and a piece of wood working S L O W L Y) and a couple of bits of rubber MAY come off in the process. Just fish them out. Use a large hex key to then get a full bite and remove the seal cap S L O W L Y applying torque to it. I had to do it on one of my injectors and nothing out of the ordinary occurred. You might try a very small amount of Break-free the night before. Also try slightly to TIGHTEN and the try loosening. Believe it or not, that often "breaks" the "seal or weld" between the two dissimilar metals.

Check a couple of injector threads started by Birdman to help lay your fears to rest further.

    Tell us how it goes.
