I am searching for a good GT4.I know there is the 208/308 register but it is incomplete. The dealers seem to have access but the details are a closely guarded secret it would appear.Makes it hard for a potential buyer to check the original colour etc.etc. Anyone tell me where I can get more accurate info?

Depends where you are. Try Owners' Clubs etc. I have history on many UK and other RHD cars. I'm not sure dealers will have access to details of older cars unless they were the original supplier. Ask on here. Chassis number is generally the necessary starting point.

If the seller is an individual they can register the car with the Owner's section of the Ferrari website. This will then show the original paint, interior and carpet. Also it will have the exact build date. An owner mmay also have the Heritage Certificate from Ferrari (Ferrari may or may not still be issuing these, also through the Owner's section).

I do not know what data an authorized Ferrari dealer might have available to them; could be the same information as the Owner's section without going through the registration process.

If you subscribe to Ferrari Market Letter you can do a serial number search. This will show if the car was ever listed with them and each occurance. You might be able to find color changes in this information.

As Jeff says, about Factory confirmation..also a color change rarely gets "all of it"....look inside gas filler cap or doors or beneath the carpet for evidence of the original color...

The fact that the seller can or cannot verify the fact is a major indicator IMO....

If a long term or original owner, they should KNOW......

To the OP, the five digit VIN cars are pretty much lost in the modern information age..

Factory records have been "reassembled" but are not always complete.......

Lost history can be very difficult, I am missing original Dealer Sale info on one of my three cars.
