Oliver, I understand how it works. There's even a factory diagram available from the service manual describing it's operation. John Allot from Australia hand I have had a series of long discussions about this very topic over on VLG as well as via emails. But ... once the thermostat is open the only big difference between the two systems is that the expansion tank is now above the the rest of the entire cooling system and that air pockets in the later system should be eliminated more easily as there are multiple routes for air to reach that tank. Perhaps having the tank up high will help. If you're having overheating problems due to air pockets that's unusually a very dramatic symptom like the car boils over. I don't think the thermostat by itself will make any difference at full operating temperature. I haven't heard a good argument as yet for that. I'm not willing to modify my car with the tank up high but I would like to consider adding the thermostat to allow the cooling system to work properly during the warm-up phase. Are you experiencing air pocket problems? Bob S.
Great pictures Stephen. Oliver, see that banjo fitting tap at the top of the hose fitting that returns to the tank? That's what I mean about a good path for the air to return to the tank. Stephen, That's first picture I've seen of a dual distributor engine with both of them on one head! I can't say I understand why Lamborghini did that though. Cool! You may want to consider making the tie-rod or drag link yourself. I did that for the drag link on my Espada and mine is now adjustable in length as well. That's only so that the tie-rod ends can be easily replaced. Toyota truck tie-rod ends, some standard threaded link joints and a piece of chrome molly tubing is all you need for the earlier Espadas. Is yours a straight length or does it have bends in it? Bob S.
Emilio, not at all...It was first sold to AUTO MOIA on 15th October 1973. His present owner's father (82 years old) was 1st owner in Belgium => see "importer plate HOLLEBECQ". Then he (55 years old) bought it from his father 2 years ago and his son (24 years old) wants to keep it as well.
Yes and it boiled already too many times this year even with the new fans and new radiator...may be I'm racing "grandma" too much...and should use it for cruising on Belgian riviera !
With all the posts about this on two different threads I'm still unclear which model you're talking about and which style cooling system you have? Do you have the expansion tank that's on top of the valve covers? Bob S.
Bob, I've discovered that my engine had a 2nd water pump...electrical, don't laught too much ! Then it has to be fitted back to its original configuration as I'm now modifying my OEM water pump cover with the last model on which there are 2 exits compared to the single exit it has by now. So, I will reconfigure the hoses flow whith the last model thermostat that should have been fitted on my car as it's a Jarama GTS and must be similar to Espada S3. So I believe the whole mess on cooling my engine comes from the previous owner who modified so many things that it wasn't working correctly anymore !!! Let's continue in this issue and I will come back to you later about it. Ciao
Nice Car.It seems as my Espada will be ready this week. You better beleive it.Now I just need to fill the AC,and fix one windowlift. I have some nice cars for sale at youtube.com/tonewheelduderacing Ciao/Patrik
That's interesting, a Jarama with the older style cooling system plus some owner modifications. Electric water pumps can work very well if they're installed properly. I've already finished my water pump and it has the simple inlet, outlet and heater hose inlet. One idea was to simply put a tee fitting in the heater line near the water pump connection point and connect that to the outlet of the newer style thermostat that's open when the thermostat is cold. This would allow circulation within the block while the engine is warming up. The down side is that your heater may not work so well while the engine is warming up. Bob S.
Hey Bob Had you paged in all that rain on saturday ...... Anyway loved the colour on you car in spite of all thoses raindrops i will post some pics here soon regards Gary from Toronto
Bob, 1st pic is the pump cover that doesn't match my production sequence engine, and the 2nd one is the cover that must be fitted my water pump...so everything will be fix. More than that, I saw my ex #10522 last WE, it was at the same time on production line while my present #10528, and the earlier has the OEM upgrade... I was probably under water at the time ... I'm sorry but I never reconized a page but then you didn't have my last name. Did you meet Mr. Miura a.k.a. Craig? He should have been able to point me out. Next year? Bob S.
Bob ; I met the gent from washington (Mark with the white series 3 ) didnt meet anyone else seems everyone was not as enthusiastic as I ( or as CRAZY) about standing in the rain!! Gary
The other Espada at Le Bella Macchine d'italia last weekend was this car http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=138071252&postcount=216 Owned by Mark(?) Trehan Sorry I know I got at the very least the spelling wrong ... Anyway he explained and demonstrated about the wheels. He said there were 10 cars done like this. The center dish appears to be a chrome plated, quite heavy piece of steel/cast iron about 3/8" thick that's been turned on a lathe I suspect. A threaded adapter piece is inserted where the the standard SIII logo caps were. The dish slips over the adapter and the regular Espada/Miura spinners just spin on lightly to hold them in place. He works for Audi so maybe he's got good factory information about this? Good to see the car there. Bob S.
Philippe and others folks....who does remember an Espada with a Miura gear shift plate ???? I know that I've saw that picture once, but can't remember where, any help ??? Image Unavailable, Please Login
On early S2 no 7825. See the Illustrated buyer's guide by Box. Philippe S2 7987 www.lamborghinimiura.com
Are you sure its #7825? When #7825 was for sale in the Netherlands last year I didnt notice the odd shift plate and it had the original black interior. The seller told me the car was imported from Switzerland and bought from the first owner. Today that car is licensed in the Netherlands.
Kevin, Rob wrote in his book it was #7825. Last year, I bought directly Rob notes and Press files + some pics that were on Ebay, it is confirms in his notes => I've doubble check. Rob was living in CH and #7825 was belonging to Dr. Urs Blum - ILOC swiss representative...so it makes sense. If you still have a contact with the Dutch owner please inquire...pictures will be much appreciated too as I want to modify my car too.
Olivier, the seller was also referring to Dr. Blum as the previous owner, it must be that car, confirmed by the same outside mirrors and VIN plate. Strange that he didnt mention about the odd gear shift plate and described the black leather interior as the original one. I dont know if he still owns the car, but for sure its licensed in the Netherlands today. I will contact him again and ask for more info.
Hi! After some years in different ownership and standing unused in garages, 7120 is back on the road again. My Espada has got some grinding to the crank, new bearings and piston rings. The heads had a valve job and I put a new synchro ring to the second gear in the gearbox. All made wonder and I find it hard to think of a nicer four seater than this. Yes Indeed! It has the wing windows and the rear window slats too. Lel, could you describe or show via pictures how that rear set of slats goes on and comes off for window cleaning? Bob S.
