Recently, I was on the hunt for a 360, then backed off for a number of reasons. In fact, I've never driven, sat in, or rode in a 360...never even heard one in person, other the passing in opposite directions on the road. The closest I've come is seeing one in a showroom, and that was many years ago, before I had a serious interest. Point being, that regardless of my lack of experience with the 360, I knew I wanted one.

Sooo, last night I'm slowly riding my '97 911 on a local back road, and I see some lights beind me coming up quick. I could tell it was something "newer" due to the halogen headlights. As it got closer, I could see the distance between the headlights was wider than 'normal', and the car was lower than normal. Knowing that there are few 430s and 360s around I began to think...hmmm. Then it got right on my bumper...close enough for me to see the Ferrai emblem on the hood! With the trees close in on this particular road, I heard the sound echo off the surrounding trees.

A few curves were ahead of us, and I took them at medium speed, and he hugged VERY to my bumper...I guess he figured/hoped that someone in a 911 wasn't going to just 'lift off the gas'...which is true. So we come to a stop sign...a busy one. And let him come up beside me. We talked about 10 seconds..."nice car, what year?", etc. It was a red/tan, '04 Spider, challenge wheels, challenge grills, sheilds, not sure about exhaust, but it sounded good. I'm about positive it was an F1, from how it shifted. I let him go in front...a very long straight away...and then he nails the gas.

Now I've tried to think of a nice/clean way of putting this, but sometimes there is only one phrase that seems to works...here's the best I can do......holy freakin' ****......the sound of that car!!! I was by myself, an honest to God, I was laughing out loud. I think it actually gave me a woody. I wish I had asked what kind of exhaust he had.

So anyway, I know this thread really has no value to the community, but I just had to post it. I know there are lots of factors for and against Ferrari ownership, and I have investigated probably all of them. But if there is a better sounding, better looking car on this planet, than that 360 I just saw...and it was night time...I'd like to see it. To all of you guys who own them...cheers to you!

that is a very nice post (although I do not own a 360), and the way you described it is dead on - sound, looks, beauty, the whole "9".....so when are you going to sell your 911 and jump into a 360? :)

Nice post. Having had my 360 Spider for just a few weeks, that is how I react when I drive it and this is my second Ferrari. It is intoxicating to drive. The sound is amazing and the experience surreal. The odd thing for me is that everybody seems to want to race me, but I am in my own world enjoying that car and pay no bother.

I got my first Ferrari several months ago and your words summarize the experience. It makes my GT3 feel like junk. I'm sure I look like an idiot from the big smile on my face. The handling, the sound, the car sings to you on so many levels.

I was fortunate enough to be able to drive an Enzo (with custom exhaust to boot!) about 1 month ago. I then hopped in my '93 911 and it seemed like it had a slow revving motor, was 2 feet off the ground, purred like a kitten (even though it's the air cooled vintage and I removed the secondary muffler), and had the steering ratio of a bus! However, after driving my 540 for all week then taking the 911 the next saturday it seemed lower, great sounding, tight steering....and of course after driving a rental car on a trip and getting back to my old 540, it feels like a rocketship, great handling riding car etc...

The enzo I'd imagine makes a 360 seem like a lexus if driven back to back :) It's all relative I guess, but I will say this- once you've gotten the ferrari bug you can't shake it. I've been playing with the idea of moving from the "p car" to "F car" for several years now, but things keep sidetracking me (kids, house projects, economy)....I have to get one in the coming years though or I'll go insane-ha! 355 spider/360 coupe/ 360 spider is my target...

I've driven mine almost every day for the past year (hyperflow cats, Tubi 360 spider) and the sound never gets old. Jamming it down with top down in a tunnel or under an overpass is intoxicating. :)

Nice thread. I have a 360 and I still get goose bumps when I hear one go by. Silly, I know, but sometimes you need a different point of view and see/hearing one go by sure can do it.

Now for a slight rant: shame on that 360 driver riding your bumper. If you had been someone that got sketched easily, you could have had that ferrari emblem embossed on your rear end. I don't dig the whole "aggressive driver riding someone so they will move over"-thing.

Anyway, your story sounds cool. :)

Makes your GT3 feel like Junk??? Wow. I get the total opposite. The 997 GT3 will out handle the 360 hands down and out perform it in every catagory.... Stradale, maybe....

360 feels like a supermodel, GT3 feels like a Roller Durby girl....

I drive them Both on a daily bases... Ferrari, is what it is, but it is no GT3 when It comes to really beating the car down a country road... The F car feels Fragile to me...

That being said I reach for the F car keys more often, It is a very special car with a very special feel...

I was talking about Ferraris in general. I've got a Scuderia for comparison.

It's not really junk. It's just not a Ferrari.

Allen: I had a 911 and then move to a 360 spider, f1. You will love the 360 and your heart will pound as you drive it. I now have a 430 spier and the handling and power is indeed a step up. However, both are terrific cars and there are modifications you can do to the 360 (exhaust, cats).

I believe the GT3 and the 430 may be close in specs. A GT2 however is a monster.

However there is a lot to say about the driver. Hope to see you get a 360 soon--life is short.

Scud........ I was Talking 360..... Scud is a step above anything but a GT 2.... Or a CGT....

Enjoy it, I am on the fence between a CGT or a Scud..... I feel the Economy turning in my Kneck of the woods. With a little luck I will have a tough desicion to make.

I had a 997 GT3 before the 430. I have to say, the GT3 felt supremely tight/solid with hardly a rattle or noise heard anywhere. The 430 doesn't feel like it's built with quite the same tolerances. It certainly doesn't feel loose, by any means, but it doesn't feel as 'all-of-one-piece' as the GT3. I wouldn't call it 'fragile', but it does give you the impression that people designed and built it, not computers/robots. Though, if you've been to the Ferrari factory or watched "Ultimate Factories - Ferrari", it's easy to see the modern technology that Ferrari uses to build the cars.

The GT3 is a great car, no doubt about it, but it lacks a certain charm. One would almost certainly realize this after experiencing the Ferrari. The drive in the 430 is more heart pounding and seductive. I took my buddy out for a ride the other day and he looked over and said, "How long do you think I would last if I had this car?" lol. He never said that after a ride in the GT3 (though, he did like the car a lot).
