Yes true, but the teams I believe do not want to break away, but at the same time do not want to be forced around, with insane rulings ect, the FIA IMO does not look after the sport like it's mandated to do in its own statutes, otherwise we wouldn't have this situation, it needs a unbiased firm headed common sense approach, in line with todays standards, essentially the teams are racers that want to race fairly I hope.

This is a matter now to remove Max and IMO it is well overdue, so it must be seen through, even though it is a real messy business.

Ferrari and Monaco are the jewels of F1.

That would actually be a good thing, if the specs quickly diverge. Then it will be fairly simple to say who is king.

Of course they will make sure they're never on the same track, but once in a blue moon something will slip through. Kinda like CART at Montreal where the whole world saw how backwards they really are compared to F1.

No one in the sport wants to see a split. Give the teams an honest broker to deal with and they'll all come back to the table.

I agree wholeheartedly, but, I think FOTA's line in the sand is real. If Mosley stays, and refuses to implement a framework of rules that gives acceptable governance (i.e. cuts him off at the knees), then I think FOTA will indeed start a new series, and it will be the premier series. It will almost certainly consolidate with F1 again in the future, but only when Mosley is gone, or at least that framework exists.

Ultimately, the WMSC members need to act in a responsible manner... it's one thing to come up with a semi-believable excuse for voting for Mosley during the sex scandal, but to vote confidence in him this time around would be a bridge too far, as it were. It seems that it would be awfully hard for a voting WMSC to explain himself after voting for Mosley this time around. Also, I'd wager the teams, collectively, may wield even more sway over the WMSC members than Mosley thinks... I can see Mosley lobbying them and thinking he's got it in the bag, and being surprised when things don't go his way.

I would so love to see him voted out... just to hear him squeal like a stuck pig.

I understand, but given the nature of sports fans unless it's apples to apples nothing will be settled.

Dave IMO Max has built the FIA or should I say structured it to protect him, you only have to look at how anyone that dare speaks out about Max gets treated, he is now trying to change the press laws in the UK, only because he was caught out bang to rights....did he care before did he F.

    To be sure.
I just think that this time around there might be enough outside pressure being brought to bear. A lot of folks who are willing to turn a blind eye to the sexual pecadillos of others are not so broad minded when it comes to money.
Or just call me a cock-eyed optimist;)

    I think your right.
All Bernie, Max, CVC, FOM, and the FIA have to do is comply with every demand FOTA has of them.
    Simple really.
Look at what this group brings to the table and compare it to what FOTA brings.
It is obvious who holds the power in this negotiation. A slam dunk really. Give the motley crew 10% to fight over.
Dangle a percent or two between them for control.
The strategy worked againt the teams.
    Make it work for them.

Steve (Kraftwerk) is right. Almost anyone would be better than Max...and that includes JT. It's not a matter of if JT is good enough, it's simply a matter of Max being just that awful.

Dave's post below sums it up. It's really not that complicated. :)

    Abso-friggin-lutely!!!

Enough with the boxing analogies already... they are just silly. to hold a prize fight all you have to do is rent an arena and get 1 other contender to show up...

The talk of two series going on next year is never going to happen. It will either be FOTA's, or them reaching a deal with the FIA. If FOTA's plans are concrete and revealed in the next few months, the 2010 F1 season will never happen. TV contracts will be voided, none of the new F1 teams are going to commit to F1, the tracks will cancel their contracts etc. Remember, Bernie's contract states 18 cars will start a Grand Prix at each track.
I think if Max gets das boot next Wed. it will be a good thing. But not a guarantee for the future of F1....
Every day FOTA seems to get a clearer vision of what a proper race series should be....I love their phrase 'lower ticket prices'.....

I remember reading an article today (or yesterday) where Max said that if he is replaced, his replacement will be worse than he is. That makes me wonder if what he said is:

    A. just plain bullsh!it

    or

    B. speaking the truth as he already has a staunch handed person in place at his departure

Max is a drowning man who will grasp at any straw.
Each of his utterances become more and more alarmist and desperate.

Can't help but think this is nothing more than just a new level of the typical saber-rattling that has been ongoing in F1 for years. Everything will get settled and nothing much will change in the structure. It would be interesting to learn if any bookies are giving odds on either of their departure in the next year.

I hope I am wrong but once you create a bureaucracy it is almost impossible to dismantle it and Max and Bernie are the masters of this game with lots of favors owed and ready to be collected. The sex scandal should have finished off Max but it didn't and he certainly doesn't seem ready to fade to black and sit around on the porch of his country home watching the grass grow.

You can't just make anyone the President. It doesn't work like that the FIA has all these BS rules.. If you are not a member of a FIA club for a minimum of 10years, you can't put your name in the draw. If Mosley gets voted out, one of the 2 Deputy Presidents of FIA becomes President for the remainder of the term, in this case till oct/nov then they vote for a new president... Any interim President wont really be able to fix the current FOTA/FIA issues unless he plans to be a contender in the future.

I think J.Tolt has a chance because he headed the Manufacturers Commission.

The FIA President looks after more than just F1. The big picture is they have responsibilities outside of F1 like road safety and you don't get many people wanting to put their hands up for the job. (Max Mosley has been pretty much the only contender for the last 3 or 4 elections). There are 2 Deputies and 7 Vice Presidents, why haven't any of them put their hands up? for the up coming election?

kraftwerk: Your post in bold had me in stitches! haha :D

They didn't vote him out last year for the sex scandal, I'm not too sure they will for this...

IMO the only thing an interim pres. would have to do is to agree to negotiate a new Concorde before the teams commit. The reason Max has had such paltry opposition has little to do with the desirability of the position.
BTW please don't encourage Steve to scream as the anger management program is just beginning to work;)

Ermm.. I read it as, by his own admission he is bad at his job and he knows it.

I really think he gets off on being disliked seriously....

Overall IMO Bernie has used Max over the years it really is quite obvious to me, and you could say he is still doing it by letting Max keep F1 in the headlines.

The Nazi sex overtones scandal, really tested his resolve though, however this time the masses really have revolted... we shall see how he deals with it.

    Thank you Steven.
I just read that Bernie said this AM that he feels teams should be free to spend what they like as long as they sign a five year agreement.
He also said that it is up to the FIA to keep or remove Max.

Even if Max gets voted out and the FOTA stays with F1 it's still going to be a tough year next year. Very interesting though. Mad max may just be Pouting Max.

That's it then job done, Max is on his own!, seems to me Bernie has thrown his hat in with FOTA.

Will the FIA members have the balls to vote him out that is the question..

So will you beable to watch the race Dave...;)

Yeah dancing is tough on the Zimmer.
It does sound like BE has thrown in with the teams and I'm sure he waited this long after being burnt when he called for Max's head over Hooker-Gate. But short of a silver cross and a stake to the heart we can't count Max out yet.
BTW I heard that Nico is talking about jumping ship if there is a split.
