Well, as I've said - if I can get the number, I am going to get to the car ASAP. I agree with Bill - it's a good price and I am more than handy with a wrench, so I'd likely try to acquire it.

Guys, I am almost 20 years looking for one of these things...I have been the person that kicked himself and wondered. I know about the value of PPIs and I own a few different classics. I've also felt that there's hype and fear about how troublesome these cars are to own - shoot, I own an E-Type, can't get much more finicky than that. Have I been cheap and waited for a "deal" - you betcha! However, as Bill notes, there are plenty of people that have gotten "deals" that were truly deals...you never know until you try.

Sometimes, life has a strange way of working...if things are remotely decent with this car, and I can get a contact, I may (finally) be joining the fraternity. I won't be emotional, but I will tell you that I am seriously interested, and I will make the move if the car checks out.

Very true. Hopefully this car works out for you. Now only if a silver or black, Weber carbed, GTB were to pop up in and around for NC with a similar price..........

Don't blame the mechanics as they are just doing their jobs.
Don't bame the owners as ferrari owners are on average as ignorant as any carowners when it comes to cars
Don't blame the seller as the only trying to get some of their money back

As we all know (?), cheap ferrari's are virtually unfindable and buying one is only the start of an adventure, in many cases an expensive adventure.

But, the joy of owning one is priceless

Hi Steven, wasn't blaming anyone for anything, just passing on my own personal experience with supposedly "perfect" old ferraris.

Not sure that cheap ferraris are unfindable, I found my 308 for $20,000 flat and she is a wonderfully solid car. My other ferrari, a 3.2 mondial cab, was purchased for $28,000 and she also has been very, very good in every respect.

Yes, agreed, a wonderful adventure in any case.

redfabri, I restored (with my own hands) a 3.8 series 1 DHC (flat floor w/ fixed bucket seats) and I have to say, that car was a joy, and immensely easier to work on than a 308. In the 60's and 70's the brits built cars that were made to be taken apart, repaired and bolted back together - everything unbolts in a logical sequence and is relatively accessible. I didn't find it finicky at all. A 308 on the other hand in no such simple beast - you'll find you're taking off a wheel, removing a wheel well liner and a battery and then removing the steering rack and the radiator (I'm exaggerating) and the dashboard to be able to replace the clutch master cylinder. On the E-type you just open the front hood, remove the clevis pin at the pedal and unbolt the four mounting bolts. Silly things like "how big is your hand" matter on a 308 - many items are quite inaccessible if you have big hands. You'll have a great time wrenching with you 308 but don't expect it to be anywhere near as simple and easy as the E-type.... Good luck and enjoy!

    Cliff,

Thanks - good to know! I've been cursed (or blessed?) with very small hands, so hopefully that helps. However, I changed the fuel pump on my '66 E-Type and I was cursing up a storm as I went through the rear passenger speaker to get to it. A contortionist I am not!

Needless to say - I am not daunted by the task. I've also been fortunate to be around cars and work on them since I was a child, so nothing truly scares me there. When you get into more modern territory (e.g., 348 / 355 on), I'd be more tentative.

We'll see what happens. Still no response :(

I agree, the way it looks in that garage, chances are it has been taken care of its entire life. It looks like a Euro spec QV and the price is very good too (cheaper than a new Honda Civic Si). Personally, I make sure if the car run, check all the fluids, look for oil leaks, run your own compression/leak down test, check the body for crashes.

Sometimes if you see a good car, you should be knowledgable enough to make a quick decision yourself that instead of posting on the internet waiting for comments...I have seen a case from other forum when some dude asking about a car then another guy (I know personally) looked at the car and realized it was a good deal and told his local friend to buy it. Ouch!

I have been inquiring on this car for awhile...since it first posted, still have had no response from the seller. I even said I would purchase the car at said price and fly the money to Jersey, get it loaded for the tow home...still nothing. Either it is sold or...

Hey - I agree. There was no way I was posting this...someone else started the thread and my heart sunk.

I've seen guys on Ferrari Chat back off when someone is interested...seems a few people have mentioned it on this one. Like the other posters, I can't get a response. I did PM the person that said they had the number - also no response. :(

Apparently, the car has been sold. A real bummer, but someone got a good deal.
