Hi folks, I still have my milage-faceplate in my 1979 308 GTS. But by the time I converted miles into kilometers, I already got a ticket for speeding. Would anyone wanna swap their kilometer faceplate for my miles one? The damn speedo's on ebay are mostly sold for lots of money, if you just need a faceplate!! Any other solutions to are welcome!
Dig into this deeper before you spend one Franc (Euro). There may very likely be (Much?) more than just swapping out units (changing face plates). The needle probably will not read correctly IF you change out units. A friend swapped out a MPH SPEEDO for a KPH unit when he moved from the USA to Europe and the KPH unit DID NOT WORK properly in his US Spec car. If this was an abnormality or normal I do not know. Never found out the end result as I lost contact. Changing JUST the faceplate between a KPH unit and moving it to an MPH unit may not work either. RIFLEDRIVER or DaveHelms here on this board along with a few other True Gurus may be able to answer better than I and tell you EXACTLY what you have to do. Good Luck. P.S. I got a spare 85 MPH unit REFACED and RE-CALIBRATED into a 180 MPH (had to do both as I understood it) unit by Palo Alto SPEEDO in CA. USA). The speedo needle in an 85 MPH SPEEDO car moves much further to register the same speed as the needle in a 180 MPH car as the faces are very different. Others have had good luck with some other US companies. Keep us posted on your results.

My #20405 has a unit like that it has BOTH scales on the face......I don't have any idea what a part number for one like that might be... I'll buy your MPH one, if that helps you though....
Big Tex, do you mind taking a very detailed picture of you faceplate? I think I can figure things out, and because I have a US spec (and keeping it that way!!!) I'm gonna go for the two scales faceplate. But I'll have to silkscreen it onto my original one! To be continued I guess!!
Same here, my UK car now in NZ, faceplate has miles on the outside and Km's on the inner ring, difficult to read though and the limits here are crazyily low so always looking at the speedo and not the road!
I'd be happy to, but they make fun of my crappy pics! I'll have a friend do it, digital.......this was a universal replacement unit, I suspect, as a North American version has miles ONLY, as you know......the car was heavily damaged when new as the seatbelts are stamped "1981" DOT...it's all very strange.

I was under the car with repairs last night, sorry...........even the gf left after dinner, disappointed! ^%$%&$(& car! I'll get her to do a picture....I was looking at it, they ARE rather hard to read as an inner circle, but I think it'd keep you out of trouble. Get Ferrari Classiche involved, about time they stepped up to help us, cranking out the instruments and the OEM steering wheels!
It is only a faceplate swap, except when you go from 85mph to 180mph, then the scaling is different. Your friends problem is due to swapping old style with new style speedometer (or vice-versa). The senders are different, and so are the speddometer internals. E.g. old style senders are 4 pulses per rev, new style is 8 puilese per rev (and different electrical characteristics as well).
