I found the speculation of who would run the breakaway series interesting. Would/could those same names be mentioned as Mosley's potential replacements?

Max's buddy will replace him and do/act according to Max's commands. Him just stepping down is simply a facade - he's already said his replacement will be worse than him.....time will tell

I don't know much about him but I do know that he has connections to Monaco and is a member of the Ferrari board IIRC...so he can't be THAT bad....right?

But seriously, I would HOPE that FOTA was smart enough to cover their asses on this point. It would be too easy for Mosley to not run for re-election, a new chump to be elected, who then nominates Mosley as his VP or something. I'll wager that FOTA has hammered out a deal too that will include proper governance, so whomever takes over, they will be unable to rule F1 with an iron fist as Max has been doing lo these 19 years :)

FOTA won a first round KO against the FIA, so it's unlikely that the FIA really was able to keep any cards to play later, FOTA members ain't dumb and they've seen it all before, and I'm sure made contractually sure their interests are respected and protected. At least I hope so. We shall see!

Now that MM has been marginalized I doubt that the FIA will do anything that might allow him to make trouble again.

....I don't always make radical rule changes in Formula 1, but when I do it is done without the German girl paddling my backside!

His will be big shoes to fill. What Mr. Mosley has done for the FIA and F1 over the last decade or so has been great...

You are joking right? I'll concede his first decade in power saw serious safety improvements. But for at least the past ten years he's been behaving like a lunatic - Other than constant rule changes that nobody wanted what has he done for the sport over the past decade?

    Cheers,
    Ian

    This is scary ......

It has been pointed out, however, that whilst Mosley will turn 70 next year and has professed his desire to take a back seat, he has changed his mind before, having announced in June, 2004 that he would stand down that October, only to be persuaded otherwise when the FIA Senate asked him to stay. He has been FIA President since 1993.

I too hope FOTA was smart enough to cover their asses right now. In the news stories it appears that Mosely is gloating about all this and it was his decision to step down and everyone at the FIA knew he would, but he couldn't say anything as ->

. . .in Max's own words:“My departure was planned, agreed, arranged – all the staff have known for months, but obviously I couldn't say it publicly because the moment you do you lose all your influence. Now I don't need influence, it's a satisfactory situation. I can have a peaceful summer for the first time in three years.” Barf bag please.

Someone send the man some duct tape for his mouth and Strivectin-D for his face.

He needs to be gone NOW, not later. He should be treated like some corporations respond to employees that resign.......he's said he's gone, the man is trouble and needs not to be hanging around, buy him off and escort him out the door.

+1 At best he's a lame duck. Trouble is, he's a crazy lame duck that could still wreak all kinds of havoc. I'm also concerned about his comments on whether his successor will be any "better" than him - He's still capable of forcing in another lunatic stooge of his own choosing - Very dangerous.

Hopefully, FOTA got some concrete guarantees along with their win

    Cheers,
    Ian
