It would be cool if the price keeps up with the demand though. I would love to see more 308 restorations here on the forum.

If I look at advertisement alone, I see the 360/430 ads increasing steeply (in numbers, not in price!) and there are very, very few 308/328 on the market.

    Even less decent ones.
As I said previously the 308 market, in Europe at least and for early cars, is completely dry due to the fact that many are looking for such cars in order to take part in historic events as the dry-sumped 308 have a proper FIA homologation and racing history.

I dont see the differences between the 308 and 328,They are just about the same car besides an engine upgrade and mild exterior and interior changes.Obviously dry sump glass cars will demand more of a premium due to there rarity.I chose the 328 for the extra performance whilst still keeping with the classic 308 style

There's another thread discussing 308/328 but the 308 is the last old school car that left Maranello. Doing away with plastic and creature comforts.

The 328 is not enterable in FIA sanctioned historic events or championships as it lacks the homologation in any category or group raced at the time. The 308 actually has quite an interesting palmarés.

"If I see two people driving down the street and one is driving a 308 and the other is driving a 430 I would say to myself that the driver of the 308 has great taste in cars, but I would say that the owner of the 430 is just some rich dude that wants everyone to know that he can afford a Ferrari. "

Most people are going to think exactly the same thing when you drive around in your 3x8. Virtually no one except another Ferrari owner realizes that a 3x8 in excellent shape isn't a new Ferrari. When I was at a gas station a few days ago and several folks were talking to me/looking at the car, I overheard one guy telling his friend as they walked away, "That's a two-hundred thousand dollar car." So accept the fact that you are going to be one of those "rich dudes who wants everyone to know that you can afford a Ferrari" in everybody's mind but your own. ;)

    my 2ct,
if all future buyers would enter racing this would be true. They're not however so it might be of some (very) small infuence but i do think it more a price and availibility issue. There are simply less available (and despite that, stil cheaper too)

    so true,

indeed on numerous occasions people are actaully very surpriced when i tell them that my car is 22 resp. 26 years old.
I think for 95% of them, if i would tell them they're only one year old they would believe me aboslutely.

the 3x8 design is not only beautiful but also timeless! (1+1=priceless....)

If you actually read everything I stated I was not talking about your average joe on the street. I was referring to people 'in the know' when it comes to cars. For instance I have a E30 M3. I am sure some of the ricer kids see these cars and say "wow, cool body kit", but when somebody with good overall taste in cars see the car they just nod in respect.

I know I could google it but without doing so I don't know what an E30 M3 looks like so I wouldn't know if I saw one that I was looking at something that I should "nod with respect" at. Sounds like a car that some rich dude would own! :)

Agree with the rest of your post, but I'm not sure on this point. An example would be the Dino 206 vs. 246. The 206 is more rare and is the original, but the 246 (the improved version) is the most sought after. Just a thought.

I can't remember when I last saw a 206 for sale, but yes, I'd think that you are right. The 206 and 246 are rather different cars though, even if they look very similar.
Look at E-Types: The first and last series command the highest prices.
275: I'd definitely prefer the 4-cam, but does everybody?
Countach: No way would I have the models with all the plastic add-ons, but a nice first series model?

It'd be very hard to say/predict what will be the most valued. For me personally it'd be a carb'd dry-sump GTB.

Based on market prices, you are in the majority.

Here are a 308 and 328, similar miles, similar condition, same selling dealer, same lack of racing heritage:

There was undoubtedly a time that the 308 was neither a newer Ferrari nor a classic Ferrari. It was sort of a wannabe Ferrari in the mid-90s stuck in a limbo class of coolness.

Only true by those who judged the car by the price tag attached to it rather than the intrisic style the vehicle possesed. Dino owners went through it and 308 owners are coming out of it. For me both the 308 and 246 were pillars of style and elegance in design regardless of how the general public 'appraised' their presence.

    shame on you...
the E30 was the first M3, 200 bhp 4 cilinder, wider (and lighter due to thinner steel) fenders.
I'm not even a bmw fan and never owned any but i did all of this without google... I suppose it just one of those things you know by (petrol)head
Anyway, glad to find out i'm not an average Joe after all:))

But back to the topic. Nomatter what they would pay (obviously within reason) I do not sell any of my 3x8. There just to gorgious to sell...

It would be really cool if the price of 308s got somewhere near the point to justify restoration costs. Then those other than us mentally challenged would be doing it. But sadly you can buy one for nearly what I put into this......
