I have an 82 308, and the vin plate appears to be a legitimate usa import, but does anyone know how to find out the history ? What state was it originally sold in ? I think it was a 49 state car given the verbiage on the vin plate, and there is no smog plate or decal under the hood that I can find.

I am in the process of getting it smogged and registered in california, and anyone with a suggestion on how to get the history would be appreciated.

I also know about carfax, but that's not what I am looking for right now.

if you had the orng. warrenty book it would have the dealers location and the owner that bought the car and date, but it sounds like you don't have these, sorry to hear that.

If you would happen to find out how to answer your questions, please drop me a note as i also have an 82 GTSI,v.i.n. 039367,Oct 1981. I also do not have the warranty card but have all the underhood decals in place,so i'm reasonably certain of being a US car,as i have cats and air pump.
    Good Luck,
    Bill

It's very hard to do....unless it was thru a dealership that is still in business, like Ron Tonkin.....

Maybe engage Ferrari Owner's website with some email communication?

So many dealers have closed/changed over the years.......as posted about the Warranty Card book is the only place where the information was filled in with the date, dealer and first owner...

A few years back I inquired to FNA about my car's origination and told me the dealer and delivery date. I don't know if they are still doing that, but that is where I would start.

The door plates indicate a US car, along with rectangular side marker lights!

By the way, the dealer they indicated is no longer in business, so trying to get any delivery information was not possible so far. At least I know where the car started its life.

Andy, get in touch with Lucy Petrone @ FNA # 201-816-2600 ( ask nicely as shes doing this as a favor for us ) Was able to tell me the date shipped from the factory and the date it entered the states, delivered to "Ferrari of Houston" in "84" After that all records of my QV vanish. Good Luck!
