Has anyone made any performance manifolds for the 348 yet?

I know there have been attempts to make a set similar to the 348, but nothings happened.

    Nope.

There was an effort a couple of years ago but when the time came to pony up the money a lot of the guys backed out.

Exactly what did you have in mind? Intake or exhaust? Intake, well there are lots of people who can port and polish your runners. Goth has done a bunch of stuff on mine, not that anyone could con, er bribe, him into doing it again. ;) You can have your TBs bored too. Now if you are talking about a completely new intake system, well, that's a different story. We've talked about it around the Stooge camp fire. So far, it's just fireside chat. But we may be closing in on a project.

First we wanted to see if we could somehow adapt the stock lower section with the runners to a new upper that had larger TBs and more volume, along with larger air feed tubing, but probably keeping the stock MAFs.

Nest is maybe to can the whole mess and do a group77racing type custom aluminum (aluminium to you Sy ;)) set up that pretty much blows away smog compliance, at least in CA.

    Vince,

you ever thought about individual TBs? and I think he was asking about headers.

Port/Polish did that give you a big boost?

Hmm, it's really hard to tell what gains have come from what mods, but in total with the goth x pipe exhaust, hell yeah there's been a huge change. Let's see, I got the dyno comparisons around here some where. The real change, however, is the throttle response and rev up to WOT (wide open throttle). The car revs faster and smoother than stock and once you get to 5000 rpm, it's a monster. Then you take it to red line (which it reaches kind of quickly), shift and you are at 5000 for the next gear. You can accelerate through the gears much faster than before. Below are the comparison dynos goth put together for me.

Really though, the numbers cannot tell you about the pace of engine acceleration and the free revving nature the engine now has. Of course, there's that wonderful exhaust note that is pretty indescribable too.

As for individual TBs, my thoughts are (1) I'll leave that adventure to my friend plugzit (2) I had been shopping for some and the cost has been way more than plugzit's timely purchase (3) I was trying to keep my car at least appearing stock and (4) after the 355, Ferrari returned to 2 TB's on their V-8's and V-12's so obviously they know something we don't (2 are lighter than 8, 2 are easier to balance, 2 are less complicated and less expensive).

Vince I was refering to the exhaust manifolds, although I am always interested in all other mods. :D

Been in discussion with Tubi about their manifolds but they want mega money and don't provide any performance figures and I've yet to meet someone who's installed it on their 348. So I'm a bit reluctant to go ahead with them at this time. Engines coming out again end of this year as I managed to bag an engine cradle off ebay and thought I might as well do some more stuff to the car while it's out.

As for the TB's... someone has done it here in the UK on a 348 engine in a 308GT4 and got an increase of between 20 and 30bhp, although but they want £5,000 for it.

Vinces will be getting a bit more when we swap in some other components (in the works). We are taking baby steps because I do not want to sacrifice any mid-range for top-end power. There are mods out there that can add big 'peak' numbers, but many times at the expense of low or mid-range. I wanted Vince to have good 'all around gains' which increases driveability and 'all around fun' :).

Ah, there's that British Vrs. American English thing again. I guess I refer to them as header pipes in our cars, but I suppose they really are exhaust manifolds. I'm used to refering to exhaust manifolds as iron thingies that hang off the exhaust side of the engine and collect the exhaust gases into a single pipe or so that goes out the rear of the car into a cat and/or muffler.

Sorry to hijack your thread, dude. :)

Denis wants to do a So Cal dyno day http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=248202 We should all get in on this to see what the mods are making. I think Bruce is still running 355 ITB's, and there has to be a couple guys in So cal running nitrous. Are'nt some 348 guys running the plenum spacer plates and guys BM intakes? I've got 500hp in the 550 and thinking about nitrous for the magic 600hp or maybe 500hp at the wheels. Do you need that much power absolutely No. But what the heck...it could be a fun day.

Remember Ed when you came to my house? He has a 360 with tubi maybe we can pick on him and destroy his numbers with the goth airbox/exhaust.
