we autoresize to 800 by 800 or less, but if you overload it with 3+ Mb photos or several at once you'll get a Security Token error. Just upload smaller sized files or less at once. You use to have to resize all photos before upload.

What if in addition to the search feature there was a Browse Feature. Instead of a bunch of annoying stickies like other Forums, the Mods could put links to common threads like timing belts, oil, etc in a separate tree view containing only threads with 100 or more responses. It might keep old discussions fresh and lessen the number of new threads on common topics.

I could look something like this:

308 > Beating a dead horsey > when to change a timing belt

    Sorry if this a re-post :)

How about an easy way to find photos of drives, car shows or other special events taken within the last 4 weeks anywhere.Just click on Ferrari event photos rather then going thread by thread and region by region.
What about a master Registry section where we could have a registry listing by model and serial number possibly a photo of each member vehicle. Many of the models have registrys but some do not.

It's easier that way. Is there a way to bump the MAX Filesize for gifs?

If this is a repost, then consider this a BUMP :)

Allow Silver & Rossa to search again in less than 30 seconds. Given that the
search function isn't all that great sometimes, it really slows down checking for
a repost (such as I'm sure this post is :))

Rob Lay, I am impressed by your openness to ask for input on the forum.

Most forum owners have the attitude "this is my forum I'll do what I want." Well a forum owner owns the domain and rights, but they do not own the people without people the forum is nothing.

I just wanted to say I'm glad a more humble admin owns this place.

number of pixels? right now you can upload large gifs, it autoresizes to 800 or less (around 100k).

if pixels, what kind of size would you be looking for?

not sure we want to take up more real estate, but maybe a 800 by 800 pixel thumbnail that opens to higher res.

Rob I forgot, but how do we place pictures throughout a post and not just at the bottom?

A sticky in one of the sections on how to do that would be a big help.

Also, PDA version of FChat, DO IT!

so I've heard in a few weeks a new vBulletin iPhone app will be released. look for it. I'm holding off on mobile version because of that and vB 4.0 might already integrate a mobile version.

it is something like 'attach' within brackets with attachment number system assigns when you upload, you might be able to get that looking at link of image. someone will have better instructions than me.

the downside to that is it always uses full link www.ferrarichat.com/forum... and image won't show for you if logged in as ferrarichat.com/forum, www.thebestemploye.com, www.ferrari101.com.

I would love to see a sub-forum for all the restoration/modiffication threads, like the thread of omgjon when he restored his Dino.

you don't think it applies more to the model type and not a general restoration forum? I think everyone has interest in their model and what has and needs to be done.

Agree. Maybe it will even encourage people to look in sections other than the one for their own car.

BTW, I have been racking my brain to understand why the Porsche forum seems to be as slow as it is. Surely there are a number of others besides me who keep a 911 in addition to our Ferraris.

Maybe I need to get busy and post in there myself a little more regularly.

BTW2, I have changed my mind on the idea of splitting the Testarossa and BB section into two. Probably it is better as it is, and we already have a lot of sections to keep up with.

Not sure on what size. It's capped at 341.8 KB, and if the gif is larger, it won't play. I actually think it's fine now, because if you increase it, we'd get more gifs playing and most likely would slow things down a bit, but it gets annoying when you post a gif and it doesnt play :D

like I said you should never have a gif that doesn't post, it doesn't matter what size it is, we'll auto-shrink to fit the requirements. if you get a security token error then you are trying to upload something crazy like a 5 Mb. file or multiple 2 Mb. ones.

now I think about it maybe if you have a high quality 800 pixel 350k photo it won't resize, just decrease pixels. 350k 800 pixel photos are a little rare and maybe a little overkill for internet.

Does the auto resize also blow pictures up a little is they are smaller than the resize?

I have an idea on what might be interesting to add to FChat, but it's kind of involving. We could add a social network type of add-on using PHP, where users could upload their "garage" (pics of cars) and make a profile of information to share with others. Through this you could add friends, comment on each other's pages, etc. This way, you could visit someone's page to see what cars they own, cars they may want to sell, etc. It's just an idea. I'm making a fitness/sports social network for one of my websites where athletes in high school and college can upload pics, highlight reels, stats, etc. about themselves. I could probably help with the development, but again I'm not sure how many people would see it as necessary.

Create a Pricing Q&A forum for all the pricing related threads/questions, much like the Technical Q&A

I would really love to be able to have a page that I can access and alter myself, so that the information here and here can be integrated into one place, and altered as time goes on. I bought this domain, where I intended to eventually host the information - but I don't know a thing about building Websites, and if all of that information were here, it would make the FerrariChat experience that much more valuable.

What kind of website are you looking to build? If it's not real difficult, I could probably help you get it done in a few days.
