I don't expect any problem but we'll find out in a couple days when I finish hooking up all the rest of the stuff and fire it up.
Do the boots close off the tubes properly, or are they just sitting on top of them without making a proper seal? It looks very neat and would be a great solution to replace the messy straight-out rubber bulbs/wire combo.
If you go on birdman's site he has a "how to" on replacing wires with a similar set of Accel wires (4040R). I just got this set from Autozone today. Remember that the wires in this thread are going to coils using plugs and an unmodified 308 uses the standard distributor where the wire is pushed into each hole and then pierced by the set screw. The 4040 wires don't have the boots on the end and would work better (not that i've done it yet) for a standard 308's rotor. Also the 4040 wires have a straight end going into the 308's spark plug tubes (instead of a curved one that these do) which in turn plug into the existing spark plug extenders. Since i just bought a brand new set of extenders i'm going with this option (4040). The option in this thread is appealing in that if you trim the tubes on the wires you can do away with the extenders and the other way (on birdman's site) is good if you want to keep the extenders and boots. Another note: the different letters after 4040 in the accel part number are for color. 4040r is red 4040 is yellow 4040b is blue and 4040k is black. They plug into the tube mostly and should seal then the upper flange just kind of covers the camcover hole
I'm not sure what honda they fit, a 2.4L something I think. The part number I bought is Accel 7914Y. The Y is for yellow.
wonderful work and pics, thanks for posting. after i do the fuel lines, the wires are next on my car. fixing my a/c this month too, more for resale value than anything else.
I cut them on a lathe, but I would guess you could get away with just sawing them off right below the raised ridge on them and maybe sane the end a little to get the boot started on. I shortened them 3/4" which is just above/at the ridge and the rear bank looks great, but they are a little long on the front bank so right below the ridge is a better spot I think.
Just thought I would ask how things are going with the new wires? Anything you would do differently next time?
I finally fired it up last night and everything seems fine. About the only thing I'm not happy about is the length of the boots. They fit perfect on the rear bank but for some reason are about 1/8" too long on the front bank so the take away it don't assume both heads are the sam...they aren't on the car I'm working on.
