348 - not photogenic...

I couldn't agree more! I've got lots a good pics, but not a single one does it justice.

 

Personally, I dont think ANY Ferrari is done justice in pics.

They all look better in the flesh I reckon.

 

I was thinking the same thing just the other day.

My 348 looks a lot better in the metal. In photos it can look a bit higher and disproportionate.

In contrast, the 355 looks good in photos.

 

couuldn't agree more. I think that part of the problem is the strakes. the virtual surface created by the top strakes in pictures make the doors look slabsided and flat, but in person you can really see the curve of the door go in behind the strakes, gives it a whole different dimension. Although sometimes, I think it comes out pretty good -- If it wasn't for the garbage in the backgound

Those are the best red 348 pics I have seen yet.

 

I totally agree. When I first started looking for a 348, I would show pics of them to my friends. They would look at them and go "It looks nice". But when I got it, every one of them said the same thing. "Oh my god! That looks nothing like the pics!" I have realized that the pics do not show the low profile or the curves properly. I am going to try an experiment. I am going to take some 3D pics of my 348. If done properly, you can view them without any special glasses or anything. You have two pics of different viewing angles side by side. You put the view for the right eye on the left side and the left view on the right side. Then you cross your eyes until both pics merge into one 3D pic. The result can be amazing if done properly. I did this while taking pics in Egypt and it can really give you the depth and feel that is missing from 2D pics. I also think that it is important to have something in the background to give the car scale so people get a better appreciation for the low profile lines of the car. I will post my results when I have them right. Thanks

 

Here's my favorite pic of my 348. I think this is a great angle that really shows off the lines of the car. I blurred the background using Photoshop, which really makes the car pop off the page.

beautiful shots...and agree about the photo vs in the metal--->it really is difficult to capture the true beauty in photos, but they still look beautiful in the photos as evidenced by the pics posted here in this thread

 

I totally agree that the 348 looks tons better in person than it usually does in pictures. When I saw the car I bought in person I knew I had to buy it!

I've often thought this. Same with the Testarossa. So maybe it does have something to do with the side strakes... (which I happen to like). For me, the 348 looks more delicate in person (in a good way) and the Testarossa more brutal (also in a good way).

 

I feel the same. Have seen many 348 photos and they just don't do the car justice as compared to the other Ferrari's.

 

Ditto the 355.

Pininfarina flattened the side and straightened the fender curves on the 348/355 (compared to the 246 and 308/328). They still have more curves than a "normal" production car, but photos tend not to capture this unless the lighting is spot on.

The Gallardo is probably the most boring exotic car in photos. In person, the proportions are actually quite good.

Pic below from Sy (?), who seems to have a knack for good 348 photos, also a knack for having a car in the right color.

The second photo is from elsewhere on FChat, of BrianC's ex next to a 348. This is a good angle on a 308/328, but the 348 looks a bit flat. I think you have to take a lower angle on the 348, because the "exotic" design cues are below the beltline, whereas with the 246/308/328 the drama is above it.

It's funny you say this. I was thinking the exact same thing last week. I saw a black 348 in my neighborhood and though "gosh, that's a much more handsome car than I imagined". Yet, I've seen hundreds of photos of the car.

When it first came out, I was not impressed. Now, over time, something about it makes it interesting to look at -- but only in person.

 

Ok, here is a test 3D pic of my 348. This was with my cheap cameras. I will be using my good cameras in a nice setting. To view this pic in 3D, look at the center between the two pics. Then slowly cross your eyes until the two pics converge into one. Your brain will take both of them and mold them into one 3D pic. If you are doing this properly, the car will show depth. You can even see the depth of the side vents into the door. Once you "lock" onto the pic, you do not have to strain as much. At first, it is easier to try this sitting back about two feet from your monitor. Then as you get used to it, you can move in a bit for a better view. I think that the shots outside are going to look good. I will post them as soon as I have time to set them up. Thanks! Todd

Its about angles. I have noticed this myself. Most of my pictures of the 348 do not look that great, in person it's stunning.

Fully agree. MUCH better in person no matter how we try to photograph it. What I notice the most is the sharp nose of the car and the slight curves both do not show well in photos, but when you see one in person it is much more impressive.

Threw one in anyway...two SSs, mine and a yellow one at the Spring Thaw in DC.

I also agree, for some reason and I hate to admit it the 355 is more photogenic than our beloved 348. I remember when I finally saw my girl for the first time I couldn't believe my eyes and I still don't.

So far the pics that look the best and give the car some aggressive looks are the one that are taken on deep grass, it makes the car look low and sleek like it really is.

I ordered the front spoiler lip from Valence and I should be receiving it this week, thank you for showing this picture some time ago, that's when I got the idea to cover the scratches from the bottom of the bumper without respray it. By the way, your car looks amazing with those rims too !
