After reading around these forums for a few mnths I have noticed you guys really don't have a problem modding your cars which I thought was going to be frowned upon. Coming from the corvette world this is not a problem for me. A lot of guys switch over the wheels or take the grill off to make look more modern but I never see too many 355 tail light conversions which to me would seem more common since they are from the bigger brother and are a pretty simple switch. Also you get the signature Ferrari 4 series tail lights.... Is there something I am missing?

Because 348 rear is one of the best looking rear ends and should be kept as is. :)
(and its looking even better and better as every day goes by)

Well, I have a SS, and I actually like the arse end the way it is...yes, some people here mod thier cars, but I would say the majority does not do too much "modding" as you say. Will be interesting to see how many folks respond here and also what they say...

+1 We SS crew are not the ones who would ever think about this mod. Why would you mess with this?

348 needs it's rear grille, it matches the side strakes and the front grille. Take one away and it doesn't look right. Besides, the 348 355 lookalike grille doesn't fit properly and looks like it's on a weird angle . Finally a 348 looks way more macho than a 355 and most of it is down to the aggressive look of the sides and the rear, not to mention the more bluff front end. 348 - macho, 355 - a bit girly and pretty.

    Whoops, I own a 355 now..! ;) :D

I think most guys feel removing the grates would take away frim the car ....I'm not s fan of the SS rear but its unique to the car just as the grates are. Changing wheels are something different

What he said. Part of the Ferrari equation is that you're buying a Pininfarina design. It was all done for a reason, by people with more design/artistic sense than most or all of us have.

    If you don't like the 348 rear, buy a 355 or 360.

Or, if you're readly to get serious ... step up to a 328! :)

I like the rear grates on my 348. My vote is to leave the car as it was designed. If you want round tail lights...buy a car that has them. The grates will stay on my car...I really like the original look. That's why I bought one. No changes here, none required ;-) It's also an expensive mod IMO and doesn't look as good as stock. OK, I have to jump in here. If it's your car do with it what you would and screw getting approval especially from those that haven't even owned a 348. It's personal preference, just like the style of wheels and tires you put on, vanilla or chocolate, red or blue, Monet or Manet. There is no correct answer here, just personal opinions which mean squat if it's not your car. If you're a purist and rationionalize you like the grates, fine but why did you change the wheels out from stock? uh huh......because YOU liked them better than the stock wheels....again, personal taste.
Personally I think the stock rear end of the 348 sucks, it's too busy and dates the car, do you buy poke-dot shoes to go with your poke-dot dress? maybe or maybe not? it's YOUR choice. The 355 design is much cleaner in my opinion and accents the 'CheeseGraters" rather than distracts from them, but that's just my opinion. As a designer myself I always love the rationale thats spewed to justify someone's personal opinion. Design, art and music are subjective to every individual and anyone that says otherwise is full of BS. Heaven help us when we start getting a majority consensus for something to be considered art. Geez!!!!!it's always a never ending battle against the 'Style Police'.:D

+1...I also have an SS and it looks fantastic, I would never modify that....as do the regular 348 backlights, they look very good...the 355 rear is beautiful, no doubt about it though.

I happen to like the 355 rear end but it is my understanding the mod requires cutting the body and I am not willing to do that. Been there fitting side pipes on midyear corvettes and changing back never is as easy as portrayed. I vote for "original" cars.
Having said that, you put down your hard earned cash, do what YOU like. If it is resale you are concerned about, then purchase a red one and leave it as stock as possible. IMO

Personally I like the original light better than the 355 conversion but I just see so many 355 wheels on 348s I was checking with people who actually own the car what their opinion was to taking an original Ferrari and swapping out parts with the big brother. I own a c6 z06 and a lot of guys with base models put on the z06 wide body to give it the appearance of a z06. Didn't know how you guys roll with the whole look a-like idea. I honestly don't go for it which is why I sold my base model for a z06. I like the SS tails better though

That is looking sexy though. It kinda looks out of place but to the non Ferrari enthusiasts, they could never tell the difference. Now I just need to save a little more cash so my z06 can have a stable mate. Personally I think the 348 has more character than the 355.

355 wheels are VERY common ,1; because it corrects the bad handling 2; trying stay with Ferrari parts 3; they do look good on the car.

BUT too many of us choose to be completely different

Putting Z06 wheels on a non Z06 Vette is blasphemy, so is putting 355 wheels on a 348. Bless me father for I have sinned. Looking forward to 355 wheels someday.

I never said z06 wheels... I said z06 widebody. It's the front fenders, quarter panels, and front bumper.... Doing a z06 wheel swap is common but those are c5 z06 wheels....
